As you all no air stones tend to clog gunk up etc. does anyone have other ways to air other then air stones. Fpr example I want to take a piece of tubing (maybe copper) make it fit nicely into 5 gal bucket and put like 20 small holes or so into the tubing to allow air to be evenly spread out through the bucket. Good idea bad idea has some tried have better or know something better

Sometimes I just take the airstones off and bubble without them. Just make sure you have a check valve, and your pump is higher up than whatever your bubbling in.

If the air stones get dirty and gunky, soak them in peroxide for an hour. Then rinse and let dry for a day. If they get water logged, let them dry completely. About a day sometimes 2 days. If you want a quick dry. Wrap them in a paper towel and microwave them for a minute or 2. I have 6 air stones that I switch between. I've used them regularly for 4 years now and never had to replace them.

Depending on rez size, you can run a small gph pump 24/7. Riser above water line. Mine sprays back into a tray filled with stones, which falls back into rez

Now that I'm working with a vortex brewer, I've quit using airstones altogether.

If you want to use them, do as Hyroot says. It'll work.

Another option would be to use short sections (say, 3-4 inches) of porous soaker hose. You can pick up a roll of that stuff for cheap, and it'll last you a LONG time. Just get creative with some hose barb fittings fitting to attach it to your air supply line, shove a "goof plug" in the end, and you're good to go.

This would be a bit wasteful if you throw the pieces away after each use, but you can probably rinse and reuse at least a few times.

Good luck!

I agree. Soak in hydrogen peroxide.

For organics, yeah? Couldn't you just circle an air hose down there with a bunch of tiny holes poked in it?

Airstones are pain in the ass to clean. I buy new ones for hydro every run. Learned my lesson.

My gf never cleaned the stones after like 5 days of dried on caked on crap. 1 stone moves air. The other stones have got to be clogged as they move hardly anything. Does peroxide clean the inside and allow the caked stuff to dissolve or start with new

I have made one out of pvc pipe with alot of holes to fit a 5 gal bucket but it floats so now I have to weight it down. And it moves the water alot. With 4 gal of water in 5 gal bucket ill make water splash/bubble out of bucket. I think it moves the water to much for proper teas

Yes. sometimes I leave the stones in the perioxide for a day. It definitely works on cleaning them completely. Even with dried caked on gunk. The larger the stone the longer they last without being cleaned

Theyre pretty easy to clean. Minimal effort. Just soak stones In peroxide. Done. Dont waste your money. Longevity is the key.
