What up people? Got my first airpots. Growing a strain called the ultimate in coco and airpots gonna try las mini scrog tech. Day one both just popped thru today.
whoa! Is this thread only for praising airpots? The most valuable information includes both good and bad results. I found it very useful to hear that airpots are not a magic bullet and that there may be other factors to consider.hahaha like we care what u think if ur coming with attitude like that, ur obviously a novice grower or some shit and just fucked things up on a grand scale.... wheres the pics or ur chatting shit mate hahahaha
No downside to transplanting, just unroll/unwrap the side right off! It should be less stressful as its simply removing the contact point, where as with normal pots you slide the root mass out which drags roots along the traditional pot. Don't worry about transplanting stress, air pots should make for a healthier plant than a traditional pot (so if you did manage to hurt them they wouldn't care as much). I wouldn't worry about transplanting too much, although I imagine with the nature of their root pruning the air pot plants might take longer to fill up the new transplant space (because most of their root tips around the outside of the transplanted mass are cut)I just started reading this thread. These look very interesting for a closet grow where space is tight! I've been using 3ga Magnum pots and sometimes a 5ga bucket. I usually progress from 1cup seedling pot to 1.5 ga pot and finish in the 3ga pot
Question about transplanting. It looks like the down side of these pots is that transplaning is going to be rough. Pulling the roots away from the walls and especially the sides must be more traumatic than sliding the pot out of a smooth container. When using these pots do you simply start in the final container or if not that, try to miniimize transplants?
I don't understand... Whats the point of using air pots if you don't have any canopy space? Sure it should give you more yield, compared to a traditional flat sided/square pot of equal volume it shouldYes I'm a skeptic. I was commenting on the reception he got. Thanks for the follow up info.
I have another question about airpots. Perhaps this has been answered but I can't find it.
In my closet the limiting factor is canopy space. I can fit more pots in the closet but I dont have room for their canopies. So I guess I am asking whether growing in airpots will give me more yield per sq ft?
Yes that's exactly my question . Since closet grows tend to be limited by canopy space is there any point to air pots in such a setup? I have about 3' x 3' for canopy space under a 600W lamp. I do up to 9 3ga pots. The plants need 1sq ft each. The pots are 9.5" wide. Even without air pots I could squeeze in more pots, but I wont get more bud.... Whats the point of using air pots if you don't have any canopy space?
Here you go mate@dropastone: Yes that does make sense: In normal pot growing a lot of effort is wasted in making those circling roots. Just like with the branches, pruning causes more side branches and bushier plants, the same should happen with the roots. But air pruning should not shock the plant because the roots are naturaly designed to stop growing when they find dry air. At least this is what I think I understand.
All of this should lead to a healthier plant that grows faster and perhaps produces more yield per sq ft of canopy or light. But from 25yrs in R&D I have found that many very promising ideas are not so effective in practice and it pays to be skeptical. Truth is, I love the idea and I am tempted to go out right now and replace my whole setup with air pots. But that would be "thinking with my dick". So a little skepticism is appropriate.
@Violater: 8 1/2 weeks from seed?? Are those autoflowers? Even with autos, those colas are amazing. Would you mind posting the basic info for your grow? Soil/Hydro wattage, strain etc? Thanks
I have a couple of Greenomatic autos that are right now finishing in 3gal square pots. Might get a comparable yield but I dont have colas like that
I just stuck my seedlings in the 15L pots as soon as they sprouted as i didnt want to mess with them as they were and Auto flower but i also planted a Vanilla Kush the same way striaght in to the 15L pots and that a photoperiod plant and that look really good, i LST'd it my first attempt at doing LST and it looks really good i'll put a pic up later when the lights are onThanks Violater. That's impressive.
I ordered a pair of air pots in a sequence of sizes. 0.3gal, 0.8gal, 1.5gal and 3.4gal. I am starting seeds for my next grow and will use them then.
