I soak mine until I see the seed starting to crack
I use Uline 32oz Deli Containers, but have also used the 18oz Solo cups for decades. I just like the bigger container. But at this point it doesnt matter.
I use Promix BX as my medium. I then mist the medium so maybe the top 1/4-3/8 of an inch is good and moist, then use a tooth pick to push the pointed end of the seed down into the medium, just enough to cover the seed, and then I slightly mist again to make sure they are buried deep enough so that misting them, wont expose them.
I then mist the underside of some Saran Wrap, and place it on top of the cup(s), and then mist the top of the Saran Wrap to put some weight on it, so it wont come off.
I myelf use a 1000w Hortilux HPS over top of the cups/containers at 24in. I have a box fan fan on low, pointed between the top of the cups, and the bulb.
I like the temperature to be 80f-84f. As soon as I see the seedling start to push through the top of the medium, I remove the Saran Wrap.
Last time I germinated seeds, I planted 105 seeds, and 100 of them came up. I blast my seedlings from day one with a 1000w HID at 24in, and let the plants grow towards the light. Many dont use that much light, but my logic is that they get blasted by the sun, if they are outside from day one, and even more blasted if they are at the equator, and 7000-8000 feet up in the mountains. I see no reason not to blast them from day one. Ive been using this method since 1978, when they first introdyced HID, though tehn it was Metal Halide, while will also work fine, and if I used a metal halide, Id use the Hortilux Blue bulb. And I have used it, and really dont notice a hill of beans difference usiing either bulb. The Hortilux HPS has a higher umol value. I do use the Hortilux Blue for maintaining Mother plants.
I also sometimes use a Gavita 1700e for seedlings at full power, and also 24 inches. Either way Im a an advocate of strong light from the beginning. I also use a 24/0 light scheme. I may sometimes turn the light off every 3 days, for 4 hours to give the lights a rest. I change bulbs every 2 flowering cycles, or every 120 days. for veg cycle.

For older seeds i soak until slightly cracked or i see a small film on seed. Newer seeds only need 1-2 hour soak then straight into soil. Hydro i imagine would work the same way but place in rockwool. (Regarding other question above.) Keep in mind I have not tried the hydro way. But i know the soil method works 100%. But if someone decides to try and test the hydro way id be happy to know your results!

Rockwool can be tricky when the environment isn't totally dialed in.
The weather here is all over the place, and my grow room is subject to some variable changed in temp and humidity that in turn changes how quickly the cubes dry out.
I'm doing some experimenting right now with rockwool and paper towels. Will share updates when I have something worth sharing.

Hhhm I wonder were he got that 68 in his santa cruz haze from. The only santa cruz hazes that have stayed mostly in santa cruz come from work done in 1980-82 to revive it. So very very far from 68. Or is it that he has made some hybrid him self with some different 68 heirloom type and crossed it to santacruz haze to make 68 x santacruz haze ?

Oh its just old timers haze and then worked by ace and from there went to bco which is were snowhigh, kagu, bodi ect got it from. For a second I thought it was a plant kept in clone form coming from a seed that had been made in 1968, but it is from seed worked and remade almost half a century later. Should of just called it wat it was, oldtimers haze.

M48 should be a inbred version of nevils southafrican x haze c. He won one of the cups with it around 88-90 and then sssc took it on. It was really really good as a f1, dont know how it was after that. You'll have to let us know.
The 68 santacruz info might still be on one of the coastal seed page descriptions (they sometimes call it. 60-70 commune haze). But its defo based of aces version of oldtimers haze. After ace did some work with it they sent some clones back to oldtimer through hothouse flowers who ran bco with kagu. But hothouse hijacked the clones and kept them to make bco's haze. Quite a few things that kagu at costal, snowhigh, kiona and bodi (longflowering sativas) come from bco (breeders choice org).

Harvested 2 of 3 Hawaiian Cat Piss v3 plants. These were short and squat pheno. The last one that is still going is a larger, taller pheno.

This is the skunkiest of the old school skunk we ran. It didn't really smell until we started to handle it, and it stinks. Very very light fruity under tone. The others were all fruity smell dominant.

MTF thes are sure different plants than anything I’ve grown. Beefy structure. Real short pistols. Smell fantastic fruity some with coffee chocolate.
907 bluegenes wonderful blueberry nose on some of these girls. Somewhat stockey self supporting.
HCP yep smell is a bit different. A little early to tell but they are coming along nicely.

You criteria is highly phenotype dependent, but I can recommend the Kali Mist and Cat Piss. They are both uplifting strains.
