you can get a gallon of flat white paint from Home Depot for $7 . I would go with bare walls before I used foil .

Aluminium foil is highly reflective, and dead cheap.

For many years I have use it very successfully as reflectors with tomatoes, grapes, cacti and MJ.

My experience (what I have FOUND, not what I have read) is that it is excellent stuff - give it a go.

the only IR reflected material out there is made with aluminum so try it out. not saying it will block the IR but it may be ok. dont try n use a cell phone in the room...lol

While aluminum foil is not the best surface it's certainly better than bare walls. A good flat white paint is a little better in terms of reflectivity but not as good as say Mylar. It's possible to get hot spots with foil if the light is very large but I've never seen a 400W create any kind of hot spot with foil. Unless you are only using reflective material on one wall of the room the "scattering" people talk about is insignificant. Here's a chart from Jorge Cervante's Grow Bible - like him or not these are measured values, as you can see aluminum foil is not high on the list. My .02 cents fwiw

Material Percent Reflected
Foylon 94-95%
Reflective Mylar 90-95%
Flat White Paint 85-93%
Semi-gloss White 75-80%
Flat Yellow 70-80%
Aluminum Foil 70-75%
Black Less Than 10%

My moto is: If you can't get what you want make do with what you got. No reason to stop the op. When you get the cash for the right stuff you can install it later.

LOL - one of many books, I don't agree with all his crap either but this is just testing different surfaces with a light meter, I think even he could pull that off ;)

you did...and he said any reputable ones.
In other ops I have used white paint. For my personal op, the black and white plastic from the hydro shop. I think that would be the Mylar. I never asked the guy for the technical terms, I just tell him I want some of that reflective plastic stuff.
