MAIN GROW IN 2ND POST

Hi Guys,

been scoping the forums for the last 2-3 months. Started our first grow in (6) 5-Gallon buckets.

This is our first Medical Marijuana grow and also our first venture into any sort of horticultural field, short of planting some flowers with mom back in the day. Our first grow is a simple organic closet style grow with a True OG strain and so far is looking very promising. Our 2nd (and current) grow is a slight step up...we’ve gone from home depot buckets and Mylar stapled onto walls to a sealed grow room with (2) 1000w Digilux Bulbs being aircooled by a 6” 3-speed fan (brand to come) and exhausted via ducting out of the tent. There is a 36 site aeroponic system with 18 Alien OG plants (Tahoe OG x Alien Kush [grown from cali connection seed bank]. With a bunch of cool gadgets and a whole world of hydroponics to learn ahead of us we get started on our new grow.

First Grow Room:

-5'x6' space
-Mylar covered walls
-(1) 1000w HPS enclosed air cool-able hood held by a structure made of 2x4's
-(1) 1000w switchable ballast
-1 MH Bulb, the stock one that came with the package
-1 HPS Bulb, same for this one

Grow Equipment:

-6 Beautiful True OG Clones (About a 5-7 days old, rooted in rockwool cubes) beautiful white roots showing on bottom when planted!
-6 Home Depot 5 Gallon Buckets-(Drain Holes poked into bottom)

All the buckets sit on a plastic covered 6x5 piece of plywood raised approx 1" for vegging. Buckets were then set on Ground level for flowering.

3 Fans, 2 small household fans
1 blowing into the canopy to mimic wind and encourage stronger stem growth
1 blowing directly under the light, keeping the plants safe from heat burn
1 3-Speed 2 1/2' oscillating vertical household fan (blows into canopy and helps disperse heat)

Strain - TRUE OG
Veg Time - 14 weeks

Water - R/O

We bought these clones from a collective, 6 of them altogether. They were perfectly healthy little girls about 2" tall.

Brought them home in a covered box, and were directly transplanted with rockwool into the prepared 5 Gallon Buckets.

The entire grow set up was constructed by us, using materials easily available at home depot. All together our set up ran us around 500$.

We used all organic soil for the grow, including steer manure, blood meal (N), bone meal (P)(Ca), perlite for aeration.

Early Life Under weak FluorescentsThe clones were kept under 4 fluorescent T5 bulbs for about a week and a half, at which point the 1000w (MH Bulb) was installed. The plants exploded after that and they have reached a flowering height of about 5', with the bottom 2 nodes trimmed are looking extremely healthy and are flowering beautifully.

BugsHad some tiny winged bugs which started dying from flying into the light, organic pesticide spray was used and the problem is under control.

Water CycleThe plants were hand watered throughout their life when needed. That ranged from once every few days in the first few weeks to once a day about 6 weeks into growth until flowering, at which point twice a day is very common. They were watered about 2 cups at a time.

VegThe plants were vegged for so long because we had no idea when to flip the switch, at flowering time (8/26) these babies are all 4' 6"-4’10’' and thriving.. (oh well, bigger yield!)

8/22 - Today, we are about 2 weeks into flowering (we failed to keep any sort of journal on our first grow, being too busy setting up our second and main grow, our girls were put in organic natural soil and just thrived under the light. We gave them 1 good trim right before their flowering period (rookie mistake ) where all heat burned leaves (from the first week the 1,000 watt was introduced and kept too close (another rookie mistake ) were removed, and the bottom 2 stems were cleared.

When I stepped into the flowering room at night, (kept dark, VERY little light is able to penetrate into the grow room at night :hump:) the overwhelming smell of an OG was incredible! Such a ****ing beautiful smell....wow.

I installed an 18" carbon filter with a 4" (brand coming tomorrow) inline fan in the room (bought when shopping for our main grow, our 2nd run overall). About 20 minutes after I installed it, I entered the room to smell only clean filtered air, holy ***t this thing does work!

Say goodbye all future odor issues :hump:

Being updated with more pics, feel free to post :)

This is our main grow for the time being, our grow set-ups will grow along with our business (we are in the process of opening a legal medical marijuana collective). After several months of researching online and reading Marijuana Grow books we have arrived at our Growlab GL145l 49 x 96 x 67 grow tent, it was fairly easy to erect, between 3 of us it took about a 3-4 hours including cleaning procedures. Afterward, we set up our 36 site AeroFlo2 Aeroponic Unit from General Hydroponics. Set up was essentially plug-n-play and it only took about 45 minutes or so to have it running. After the Aero System was set up, we hung (4) T5 Flourescents about a foot and a half above the site just to tide our clones over the next day, until we got everything installed including the light set-up. That same day we had brought home our entire ventilation system, which after setting up and testing was determined to be too loud, so we decided to return to the store the following day to find a quieter solution.

We went with BetterGrowHydro, a company based out of Los Angeles, CA. We were able to visit their main warehouse/showroom for all of our hydroponic needs so we had a huge variety of inventory to choose from. This was our 2nd visit to the store, we needed to return the ventilation system we picked up last time and replace it with a quieter system, we also decided to pick up lights here. I had originally intended to go with a pair of Inda-Gro 400w Induction Lighting, but decided to be more economical and go with a pair of quality 1,000w HPS Systems. On our first visit to BGH we met David, who had a lot of experience growing MMJ Hydroponically, about 12 years he told us. After some diagrams and discussion we left with our new equipment.

With our lights, ventilation system including carbon filter to air cool our (2) 1,000w HPS grow lights, some pruning/hydro measuring equipment, some adustable hangers for the lights, and pH meter in hand we headed back to set up all this sweet new gear for our tent.

The very first items we installed were the (2) 1,000w light fixtures. With adjustable bars on our tent roof, some clip-on hooks, and a pulley system for easy light adjustment the lights were a breeze to set up. All of our installation efforts were made much more difficult because we already had our hydro system running with 18 Alien OG clones in one half of the tent. I wanted to get our clones into the system a few days early, so it was worth the extra hassle. Once the lights were fired up, we got to work on the ventilation system. All of our electrical equipment runs out of the corner into a small alcove behind the tent, where the electrical equipment is managed and the carbon filter pulls in fresh air from the room. While working on the vent system, the electricity in the room cut out a couple of times. After finding a solution, we ended up making a quick run to home depot (our local Hardware Shop was closed, hate going to HD) to pick up some more extension cords and power strips, as well as an oscillating fan for the tent (I also picked up 2 mangoes from a Mexican guy). The circuits in the room were being overloaded, that’s what happens when you’re running an enclosed grow environment and maintain absolutely optimal conditions to maximize yield and quality. We ended up simply running some extension cords to an adjacent room and distributed the equipments electrical usage to a more manageable level for the grow room.

After that issue was taken care of, we went back to installing the ventilation system. A 6” (info) inline fan intakes air through our (info) carbon filter, situated directly outside of our tent, which then air cools both of our lights and then vents out on top of the tent (it will be venting out of the window within a few days, just waiting on some parts to arrive, this will help cut back A/C usage. All this is connected via 6” ducting. It’s nice to have the 3 speed option on our intake fan, we can adjust it to suit our temperature and sound needs. Those 2 puppies sure put out a lot of heat. We now have (3) 1,000w lights running 12 hours a day (combined 36 hours a day), in addition to our A/C to keep the California summer temps down it will be fairly high electricity bill, but not a big deal in the overall picture.

That's all for now, HD camera/camcorder is coming in today so HD vid and pics of the fully complete set up will be up soon! I'll organize the posts a bit better when I get time, in the meantime enjoy, I'm also brand new to the community >.< so forgive any faux pas of this forums' etiquette.

This is off the very top of one of our flowering soil-growing plants, looks like a deficiency to me. Any diagoneses?

Been a busy few days, almost all of the components of the final grow room are here, a vent for the window is coming in Monday and we'll be set :D

The Clones are struggling hard, we had a rough week of temperature issues, which caused some errors in the lighting schedule etc. Fucked up a bit, but hell, still learning. Only 4 of the clones are not showing new growths. Under the extreme circumstances these puppies were put through, if we have 12-13/18 survive I'll be very happy. I'll just replace the others with a different strain, I really want a purp.

I'll take some updated pics of the flowering True OG and post them up in a bit, new HD Camera with Tripod came in!

Feel free to comment, say hi, etc.

Peace.

Looks awesome! Cant wait for some HD pics haha!
Deficiency looks like a micro nutrient or one to me or it could also be plain old nute burn. check your ppms and pH before anything else though. If you have a grow book though, it should list symptoms so I'd look at that. Do you have an ozone generator? Sometimes putting plants to close to is causes brown spots to appear beneath the leaves.

"I'll take some updated pics of the flowering True OG and post them up in a bit"
Ur really into OG's aren't you haha?

What's up inhibitor,

HD!!! lol jk, I just appreciate some good high-res photos of beautiful bud :D

No ozone generator on the soil grow, mixed a nice organic soil mix, threw em in the 5 gallon buckets as wee little clones, gave them proper atmosphere and lighting, and this is what we have today :D

Running out now to grab some ice to cool the reservoir (air temps hovering at about 84F, with co2 ppm above 1450), also gonna grab some more bud from the collective down the road.

Oh and as far as the OG is concerned, actually not one of my favorite strains, though that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it lol. OG's are one of the most popular strains in LA specifically. People love em, and I love that all areas known their Marijuana come to develop exquisite local strains. OG's clones are readily available and proven, a very important detail for me when selecting a strain. Boy do they smell beautiful!
