All of you need to listen to this podcast

It's a great podcast. But there's nothing there I haven't heard before. I was banned long ago from r/NoTillGrowery for saying all this homeopathic snake oil crap was fake and just out there for people to profit by. That snake oil includes KNF, FFJ/FVJ, and every other acronym given to this mysterious bro-science in organic growing. And yeah, even compost teas. Reddit is the best place for bro-science if you need it, but you'll see it here everyday as well. I generally don't post on such threads. There are literally people who don't think you can grow top-shelf organic without guano or coconut water. And you need at least 20 exotic ingredients in your initial no-till soil mix! Lol

The entire organic thing has grown beyond just silliness IMO.

I loved hearing Clackamus Coot talk about cannabis. I heard him on a podcast yesterday. Says he has never owned a pH tester.
I love Coot I've pretty much tried to follow his basic principals since I started. My laziness has kept me away from teas and knf and all that shit...my common sense has always kind of steered me to just topdress and mulch the compost, water it, and let nature brew the tea as they say. It feels good hearing some of my own common sense deriven instincts confirmed by a professor.

oh hell, thats what I was raised on! I grew some good weed with that methodology lol

I been actually studying and talking to people that not only KNOW how to grow, but also UNDERSTAND how to grow. Weed is now primo, and have far less issues. I get what your saying now.

Soooo...
That was 4 hours. Took me a while to get through. Trying to distill this down to do's and donts i got:

Do's
Coots mix (big surprise) - 1/3rd base with 1/3rd aeration and 1/3rd compost, ewc's are best
Soil test to check your base mix for deficiencies
Mulch on top of your soil, at least 3 inches, arborist chips are best (good luck finding arborists chips. I can't find a decent source in my area)
Water
Dont till the soil
biochar

Donts (aka "bro science")
compost tea
insect frass
rock dust (though coots mix actually uses rock dust)
soil amendments in general (stick with base mix above, ewc's, mulch and water. Only add whats indicated by soil testing your base mix)
kelp meal in particular is no bueno
gypsum and epsom salts arent useful in cultivation, though again, coots mix uses gypsum (taken from the gardening.wsu.edu website she discusses)
cover crop
flushing

Please note, I am not saying I agree with these things. Just trying to distill this 4 hours down into some take away points. I admittedly focused on the take away points that were most relevant to me, because...4 hours.

If anyone else made it through the entire podcast, please feel free to chime in with your own take away points.

Coots a dumbass and that woman thinks Cannabis is a perennial/tree.

Don't listen to anyone who doesn't believe in pH or doesn't understand "flushing". They are unevolved subhumans.

That sir..... is the best advice I have seen on a pot forum. Completely agree. I get so tired of explaining that you can put a plant in pure cal mag but unless the ph is in the proper zone the plant gets nothing. So many people telling new growers ph doesn't matter in soil and coco.... pure nonsense.

I think Coot is talking about the soil PH. If your soil PH is in the correct range, it is not necessary to PH your water with organics. It would be necessary with synthetics.

I'm studying organics, gonna give it a go in a grow or two I think. I. A synthetic guy now. Ph of soil, nutes and water are crucial.

Because plants in soil dont need to use a ph meter? I mean how could they have been growing for thousands of years not using ph meter?

I'm obviously an unevolved subhuman that doesn't understand "flushing". I hope someone explains the science behind it, such as where these excess nutrients supposedly disappear to after being "used up".
