Almost 3 weeks into my first grow...help!

My ladies are almost 3 weeks old. I had previously posted about this grow about about 2 weeks ago and they had been doing great since I was able to make those adjustments. The leaves that are starting to yellow and burn had previously done the same thing but had stopped and picked up pace. But just recently they have seemed to slow down on growth quite a bit and started to show some more yellowing burning twisting on one and have become quite droopy. I am using FFOF soil and did not use perlite so I know that the mix is hot and was overwatering at the time but I thought that they had grown out of it; after being so excited seeing them have such a strong recovery! I am very new to this and would appreciate any support on how to get them back up to speed this time! Thank you!

1st I'd fill those pots up with soil... but thats not the issue.

The tube in there is for irrigation? auto drip feed?
It looks really dry. You should just hand water til you get some run off, and ditch the auto watering gizmo. Judge when you need to water by lifting the pot. Get a feel of the pot dry before watering to know how much it weighs when dry... Water.. and wait til you can tell it's dry by the weight loss before watering again.

Removing things from a scenario can help determine issues.

It is the thermometer for the heat pad! I was trying to make sure I let the soil dry out before I began to water again because I had been overwatering in the beginning (this picture was right before I watered them). Whenever I water them they do not seem to perk back up; does it look like I am not giving them enough?

Ohhh ok. (On the thermostat probe) My mistake.

How much water do you give it at once?
How much water is running out of the bottom of the plant before you stop watering?

What is the PH of the water that you give the plant.

and do you put anything into the water?

Those pots look like the inner pot is an insert to the outside pot. If so you should place something in the bottom of the clay colored pot to lift it up, unless there is drainage holes on both pots. (I think I might still raise it.) something simple can do it. Even a couple of dice in the bottom to sit the other pot on. This is just to ensure good drainage.

Water til run off, but ease up on the nutes. The first set of leaves are already burnt, so they are not helping the plant photosynthesize.

After they get a couple more sets of leaves I would also up pot them to 3-5 gal. or 2-3 gal pots if you are restricted on space.

soil is tricky...not too wet too often, but not too dry...

The cation rate is the ability at which the grow medium has at exchanging nutrients with the plant etc... calcium raises this but too much or too little can also cause issues...

When a medium is watered properly the ratio of calcium to medium is put into a good cation ratio for the plant, and the microbes etc... as the plant dries the calcium ratio to medium raises and causes the nutrients to Become less available to the plants, Too dry and your in a lock out.

Too dry and your soil life dies.

Too wet and the roots and microbes don’t get enough air

There needs to be a balanced watering schedule,

Compost tea
No water
Plain water
No water
Plain water
No water
Compost tea/feed
Etc

Find what works best for you but let the plant stay a happy wet.

And ALWAYS PH always. Always...


Every issue I’ve ever had was bc of ph...or imbalanced medium, or imbalanced feeding...

Thank you guys for such amazing feedback! I am currently just putting plain RO water with a PH of about 6.2 a little on the lower side last time I checked. I have not given them any nutrients so far; except the FFOF soil being hot. If my ph is off what is the safest way to ensure I don’t overcorrect the ph and start the same problem again? Thank you!

Once the runoff begins I stop watering so there is not much.

you want about 15-20% of what you put in to come out the bottom of the pot.

It can be as simple as plain ph'd water. If you run a gallon in your pot each feeding, pour 3/4 of a liter of plain PH water first. Then pour in your feed. Don't worry about pouring too much water and over watering your plant. Over watering is watering/feeding too frequently. (Or so I was told)

No problem. Pouring in a little plain water before feeding can help prevent some nute burn if you feed every watering. Just don't give it more than it can handle. Read the plant. It will let you know what it needs.

Way overthinking this setup ....

1. Shitcan pad and probe / make sure containers have enough drain holes
2. Top off containers with fresh FFOF
3. Water in at 6.5
4. Lift pot wet , then lift pot dry (not that complicated ) ..... difference in time between those weight will determine rate at which plant is utilizing moisture in medium.

FFOF has everything it needs in it . By topping off containers, you are “ recharging it.
Plants will acclimate to FFOF ( hot to some strains upfront ) if you just let it do it’s thing without adding more Nutes of any kind.

I do have a fan on them in that general direction should I place it more towards them directly?
