am I going to outgrow my pots?

My plants are 14-16" feminized skunk strain under 400 watt met halide in vegging right now. I have them in 2 or 2.5 gal.pots. I already see root tips at the bottom holes of the pots. Should I transplant to a bigger pot or just let them be? what problems will that cause? will it kill them or just stunt growth if roots start coming out the bottom? I still have the whole flowring stage to go...? Any input would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

I never grow in anything smaller than 5-gallon pots and normally use 7-gallon pots. Many people claim 3-gallon pots are large enough but in my experience they are not.

Next time use at the very least a 4-gallon pot and preferably something larger.

Root-bound:
Root-bound is where the roots of your plant outgrow the container they are contained in.

The following symptoms may be observed if you allow your plants to become root-bound:

  1. Stunted Growth.
  2. Stretching.
  3. Smaller and slower bud production.
  4. Needs watering too often.
  5. Easy to burn with low % nutrient solution mixtures.
  6. Wilting.

if you already see roots and you have yet to hit flowering stage, you definitely need a bigger pot... more like 4+ gallons..
