Am i growing it right?

photo.jpgHi guys, i'm new to growing and me and my dad planted 4 seeds indoors about a month ago. Two of them sprouted a little more than two weeks ago and I've looked up pictures of what it's supposed to look like at the very beginning and I just wanted to know if my seeds look "normal." i hid them in my moms flower pots and im going to move them outside when they get bigger. She has one of those automatic waterers that you see on the infomercials and my dad says they work because the weeds wouldnt have grown without it, although a few leaves on her plant have died, any tips on what should do?

Is that growing medium coffee? that looks like coffee and poop. What the hell is that dead thing in that pot?

@ Impman, no, if you read my whole post you wouldve seen that i said that a few leaves on my moms plants died, other than that the plant itself is fine. the three green leaves there are the seeds, and one leaf hasn't sprouted yet and there's another leaf at the bottom thats starting

@ Buds - Cause I bought an eighth and it had some seeds in it. my dad has a gigantic bag of seeds from back in the day, but he doesnt think they'll germinate. some are up to 40 years old while some are only 15-20 years.
