It just hit me, i have no idea about how canada started. Its just kinda there, no history, no major battles or anything. It must have become a country same time as the USA. Did part of columbus' crew head north and then eventually become canada? Did the USA and canada battle over the land.
Sorry but we never talked about canada in school and im only now wondering what the hell actually happened. Anyways, im looking it up right now, just wanted to know if im retarded or if others havnt thought or known about it either (sorry canadians im not asking you right now, im sure you know your history).
Btw, canadians are pretty cool, id smoke with you anyday.

Edit:
after looking into it, i now know i had no idea. you learn something new every day...

Canada was first a settlement for aboriginal peoples. Then, Soon after French and British explorers began to search for a route to China and India, they discovered a large fish and wildlife population (fur being a valued commodity at the time.) Starting far east in Newfoundland, British and French explorers colonized Canada and stole it away from the Native peoples. Soon a rivalry ensued between Britain and France and a treaty was signed that surrendered all of Canada to the British, with the exception of 2 small islands in Newfoundland. After the United States won its independence in 1776 an influx of American refugees (still loyal to Britain) fled to Canada. This seperated Canada into two halves:

Upper Canada - which consisted of english-speaking American refugees and British loyalists

and

Lower Canada - which consisted of french-speaking Canadians living in Quebec.

" The increase in population led to the creation in 1791 of Upper Canada (now
Ontario) and Lower Canada (Quebec). Both were granted their own
representative governing institutions. Rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada in
1837 and 1838 prompted the British to join the two colonies, forming the
united Province of Canada. In 1848 the joint colony was granted responsible
government. Canada gained a further measure of autonomy but remained part
of the British Empire."

A  Short History of  Canada

And so it remained until the end of World War I. After the war was over, Canada was commended for playing such a vital role in helping the allies win the war that in 1931 Canada was officially declared its own country, separate from that of Britain.

And that is a short history of the formation of Canada. I didnt go into detail about what years the provinces joined as they are all spread apart.

The next time you go and post a nasty retort about others using one of their own colloquialisms perhaps you should actually LEARN the term so you don't look like an even bigger jackass then your nastiness demonstrates.

The term isn't "hey".... it's "eh"

Additionally, Canada isn't a communist society... their government is a Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy.

I've seen a few of your posts over the last few days and you seem to have little else to post other then snide insulting words. This is usually the indication of a very insecure person who only feels good about themselves by putting others down in an attempt to look "cool"..... either that or a very immature person, e.g. someone who hasn't yet made it past the 8th grade.

Either way.... pull your head out of your ass and stop behaving like such a fucking shithead around here..... eh????

It is very sad that Americans do not learn about other countries in school, but it does explain the ignorance. In Canada, we have to learn all about the rest of the world we live in. Check this out, it may help.
