Hello, Im a newby to the indoor growing scene, been checking out the forums and see your name popping up reg. with v.good advice.

Im planning on exodus cheese i have ten fem seeds, i have bought root riots cubes, 3" rockwool cubes, a basic propagator, here is what i have bought
1 x 600 watt Complete Euro Magnetic Lighting system with Grolux dual spectrum bulb
1 x Contactor
1 x Grasslin Analogue Timer
2 x Easy Roll Light Hangers
2 x Gro Tank 424 NFT System
2 x Spreader mat, pump & delivery tubing.
1 x 2 litres Canna Aqua Vega
1 x 2 litres Canna Aqua Flores
1 x 250ml Canna Rhizotonic
32 x 3" Grodan Cubes
24 x Root Riot
1 x pH Down
1 x pH Test Kit
1 x Essentials pH Meter
1 x pH Buffer 7 Calibration Solution
1 x pH Buffer 4 Calibration Solution
1 x pH Probe Cleaner
1 x Bluelab EC Truncheon
1 x EC 2.76 Calibration Solution
1x 1.2x1.2m secret JARDIN tent (
Secret Jardin Dark Room 120 MK2 - Grow Tent) http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=se...29&tbnw=94&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0
1xcarbon filter and ducting + CLIPS
1x rvk 125mm l1 fan
1x rvk 125 a1 fan

INSIDE MY 'SECRET JARDIN' I HAVE THE LIGHT SET UP, I HAVE THE CARBON FILTER POSITIONED AT THE TOP OF THE TENT (ABOVE LIGHT) TIGHT TO THE ROOF BARS WITH A SMALL LENGTH OF DUCTING CONNECTING TO FAN WITH DUCTING ON OTHER SIDE OF FAN WHICH LEADS OUT OF SECRET JARDIN AND OUT OF ROOM WHICH HOUSES SECRET JARDIN, ON THE OUT SIDE OF TENT I HAVE ANOTHER FAN WITH DUCTING EITHER SIDE WHICH BLOWS AIR FROM THE ROOM THE TENT IS STATIONED INTO THE TENT(AT A LOW LEVEL) LIGHT IS SET UP TO TIMER ETC.... I AM USING SYSTEMAIR RVK 125MM FANS 1X L1 MODEL AND A1 MODEL) I AM USING CANNA NUTES!! PLEASE HELP!

i think i have messed my first attempt up, i have had tent set up with all fans blowing, light on for 18 off for 6 , had the light high on chains to keep away from propagator (fans are on timer with light at the mo or will be too cold for seedlings when lights off), i brought root riot and didnt pre soak (should i?) i placed seeds into root riots and have sprayed once a day with water with ec level 1.0 ph level 6.5-7? its been six days now and nothing, admitidly i rushed into the project after spending weeks looking into everything. Its has been really cold in my area recently and at night temps are low (-6 outside this morning) so wondering if low room temps could be issue.

If you have any info that could help me succesfully germinate, or any info about tent set-up i would be really grateful as i trying to keep a hat on this and do not wish to ask any of my friends etc.

THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPTS EVER SO PLEASE USE BASIC TERMINOLOGY LOL!!!!! STEP BY STEP WOULD BE GREAT FROM OPENING THE ROOT RIOT PACK TO SEEDLINGS SPROUTING.

CHEERS

ps any info on the following basics would be great

- temperatures at the different stages
- nute/water temp for nft grows
- keeping tent warm at night (when lights off and fans are on)
- ph levels through out
- germinating out of root riot
- anything else that will be of great help to a newby who has spent a few £££!

I SPENT WEEKS RESEARCHING AND NOW IM THERE I GOT A BIT NERVOUS AND FORGOTTEN MOST STUFF!! - STARTING TO DOCUMENT EVERYTHING NOW FOR FUTURE!

and yes i have spent quite a bit of money for a newby but if it helps me sleep at night then so be it!

Sounds to me you needed to do a couple basic grows.I'm sure some one will be along. Idont any special equipment. Cheap 4x4tent ,cheap 400watt cool tube reflecter.just soak my beans 24hours then put in dirt usally have srout few days. Man you you get lined out you will love it. I'm not growing outdoors This year. +rep for indoor farming.

cheers thanks for help... anyone else out there with the gt424 that could swing me in the right direction?

i think your humidity may be the problem. seedlings need around 50% humidity to germinate properly.
Put a bowl of water in the tent with a fan on it. this should raise your humidity.
also try to keep your temps above 65 degrees

Looks like you certainly put your hand in your pocket with the list you put up haha, one thi g i dont see on your list tho is a fan speed controller (essential bit of kit).im in a similar position, just started my 1st grow using the gt424,being in the uk i also suffer low temps at lights off,a pair of 135w tube heaters and a rootit thermostat now takes care of that for a total cost of approx £65 and very kind on the electric as well.if i was u i would start with one nft tray, temp of resevoir water is important but if you maintain the correct temps i your grow area then this should look after itself, thats why its important to get your growing co ditui s correct before starting your grow,it took me a week of trial end error but was worth the wait.

I'm first time too. you should try germinating your seeds between moist paper towels between two plates and banged into somewhere warm like an airing cupboard. Don't expose your seeds to light, they just need warmth and damp (not too wet mind or else they rot)
also, you shouldn't need your fan yet. Mine are 10 days old but on their 3rd set of leaves and I've just started them under the fan to strengthen them and lower the temp, best not to start it too early.
I have been really worried that my plants are getting too hot under the light and too cold at night (it's been ranging from 14C to 36C but they are growing fast and well so doesn't seem so harsh.
The strain you are planting will determine a lot. I got the cheapest femmed available on the site I used, it was under 15quid for 10 and the description said, great for beginners, so I would advise doing your first grows with something less fancy and more resilient. That and germinating your seeds before planting may help :)

Hey erbzy...its seems like you your using a lot of power for germinating seeds. Personally I wouldn't even use that 600w till flower. I have a secret jardin 4x4ft tent for just veg and clones. I only use t5s in veg because it cost nearly nothing and they're great for veg. I have a 1 4ft 8 bulb t5 and another 4ft 4 bulb t5 in veg tent that are 20on/4off(I will drop it to 18/6 in near future). The plants love the t5s and you can get the lights close without burning them. Also you really don't even need to turn on the fan yet, you could maybe just get away with an oscillating fan in the tent. I actually just turned on my inline fan the other day and my clones are about 10inches. Also I'm not 100% sure about this but if you have a centrifugal inline fan thats connected with ducting to your fan meaning carbon filter>fan>hood>air blowing out the tent you wouldn't need a fan blowing air in the tent because that would cause negative pressure. I just have a fan sucking air through the filter then blowing that air through my hoods out the tent in my flower tent. All I do is leave a vent hole or 2 open sucking fresh air in, I have no fan blowing air in. The same is in my veg tent carbon filter>fan>air out the tent... Hope this helps.

I used to baby my seeds. Soak in a damp paper towel, etc... but at some point I came to the conclusion that if the seed doesn't have enough juice in it to sprout like it would in nature, then its not worth growing. So now I take a small paper cup, fill it with potting soil, water it, put the seed in about a quarter of an inch and stick the cup under some fluorescents until I it gets its 3rd set of leaves or so.

I had some Northern Light seeds from Amsterdam I got back around 2000. I had a few left in the fridge for like 10 years (in tupperwear) and used this method and even they sprouted.

So, my advice to you is, dont make such a big deal of it. I know when you're first starting out that everything is a big deal. Its an eye opening experience to watch plants grow from start to finish. Taking notes is good. But after a while, it becomes like anything else... you just follow your gut and experience. You did good coming to Roll It Up. The guys here are very helpful and friendly. So keep asking lots of questions, but dont worry about shit. The only way to truly learn is by doing it. Might take you a few grows but by the time you're on your 3rd or 4th... you'll be be pretty tuned in to what you need to do. Best of luck to ya!

True that. I grow in soil and just stick em right into the dirt. I use only promix when planting a seed, no nutes. I actually clone directly into soil also with great results. This run has been 100% success rate with cloning directly into soil. Works for me!

I always mix my soil when my plants mature but when I'm germinating/seedling stage just promix. This run I mixed 2-3 parts promix and 1 part foxfarm ocean forest for my soil mix for veg and flower. My plants love it! Its safer for me to mix promix rather than using just foxfarm ocean because I'm running 4 different nutes.

No speed controller in my tent either. I think guy at the hydro store told me about it. In a small tent with a small fan like this dude(op) has I don't think its needed...

Bottom line erbz your better off putting a few simple cfls(fluorescents bulbs) over your seedlings rather than all these hps,MH,fans, ect. The simpler the better at this point. Some simple fluorescents for young plants and seedlings is all it needs. Give a little more time, mine have taking well over a week to pop. Patience is the key. If I were you I would get some fluorescents and put them right over those fuckers...

OP, your seeds may not have germinated because the medium you put them in wasn't damp enough. I don't know about the Riot cubes, but the rock wool cubes need to be soaked first, then the excess water shaken off. Put in the seed, close up the hole and leave is a 70-degree area for 3-5 days for sprouting. When the cube gets dry, water from the bottom up by dipping the cube in water and allowing the water to seep up halfway on the cube. A gentle CFL is all that's needed here. I use a desk lamp.

When roots are poking through the bottom of the cube, move into a bigger grow medium and turn on the lights.
