They don't study. They don't learn. They don't want to study or learn. They play sports. They manage social media (and bully their peers on it). They watch TV.

This is why America has elected a brainfart and his clown car as the el presidentes of this banana republic. American education has sucked since the 1970s and it wasn't much better before that. It has only gotten worse because parents don't want little Johnny or little Sally coming home and demonstrating more intelligence than their parents possess.

Every time I log in to this site and other social media sites, I see some dumb ass Americans with all their myopia and mis-used apostrophes and misspelled words, not to mention their silly ideas like nuclear weapons used on "enemies' is a good idea. Dumbasses! That nuke fallout will eventually rain out on our crops, not to mention little Johnny trying to score a touchdown on Friday night under the lights.

We reap what we sow. Since we've doubled-down on entertainment and athletics, no wonder Americans cannot discern faulty news from "more reliable sources."

it did not say they don't study or learn. it said foreign students often perceive them as doing less school work. it said in most cases schools seem easier here.
it didn't say americans spend all their time on social media and playing sports it said foreign students think americans place more importance in successes at sports and some times math. then their home country schools. AND it said that across the board students spend more time on social media these days. and american high schoolers work jobs more.

What has been happening since the 50's but less so in the past 10-15 years is that curriculum and tests where being made easier to inflate scores instead of increasing curriculum. This is dangerous indeed. working reflects values as well as desire vs availability but not at all intelligence. the thing with sports is that it is one of our our modes of nationalism but most people just like games and entertainment. Fostering competition and nationalism is the main function of promoting sports in every country but in usa it also makes alot of money.

skimming an article and cherry picking facts then reporting them inaccurately only serves to in flame nationalism in this case. Calling all americans dumb-asses is not a big leap from making blanket statements about jews or something. it's not only american who live propaganda they have their brand just like Britten and the old uk like Russia does and china .

what is the point of your talking trash? are you a self loathing american or a nationalist from elsewhere. obliviously you think you are better than. so i guess you must be a teacher with a phd from somewhere enlightened.

Just my observation that the lower income classes look down on education. Social pressure is against smart kids who study hard. It's not new either.

but also because the poor have a harder time paying for school and then still not going anywhere.

It's the parents. How many times has somebody on this board said that an education isn't worth anything? Our society looks down on "bookworms", "nerds", "eggheads" and the like. In spite of the money spent on education we have to import knowlege workers from relatively undeveloped countries that value education such as China and India. Also South Korea and Japan. I think it's a cultural problem. It begins with the message parents are sending to their kids. They expect the kid to do homework while dad gets drunk watching Family Guy. So also the media sends the same message.

Maybe it's because this was a country where a person could make it at one time without an education but that's no longer the case.

We cut funding to schools yet education is the one clear factor in improving social position and growing the economy.

I agree that media dumbs down our culture. I still think that there is a anti-education bias among the general population in the US that is not present in other countries. Trump is our president. Can't blame family guy for that.
