Primary light (no natural light) coverages for the different grow light wattages are as follows.
  • 100 watt lights: 1.5FT x 1.5FT growing area
  • 150/175 watt lights: 2FT x 2FT growing area
  • 250 watt lights: 3FT x 3FT growing area
  • 400 watt lights: 5FT x 5FT growing area
  • 600 watt lights: 6FT x 6FT growing area
  • 1000 watt lights: 8FT x 8FT growing area
If you know your growing area size, review our Grow Light Choices and Lamp Types for more information on what system best fits your growing application

I find these to be the best bet as far as most effective...

250W - 2X2
400W - 3X3
600W - 4X4
1000W - 5X5 or 6X6 at most

While a 1000W bulb will decently cover an 8X8 area for clones or vegging plants, it's important to remember that it might not be as effective for flowering ones. You've got to keep in mind that if the bulb is centered in a 8X8 area then that means the outer plants are only receiving something like 5-10,000 lumens. For best results on growing buds you want something like 80-100,000 lumens over the canopies. Just my $.02 :leaf:

I would take a foot off that chart. I use a 400w in a basically a 4x4 grow area and that outside foot is a bit week.
but that chart is what the light manufacture puts out. lol so prove them wrong.
