An 8 week affair with Jilly Bean.

Here are my Jilly Bean's from TGA Genetics in their first day of flowering. I vegged them for 25 days and they are all right about 15 inches. I have been using Fox Farm's Grow Big and some liquid kelp, along with a small amount of molasses. I will be using General Hydroponics Flora Nova, Fox Farm's Big Bloom, Molasses, Gravity, and Purple Max for the flowering stage.

I have 2 short questions if I may.

1) When should I switch over to the bloom nutrients? Right away or should I give another feeding or two of veg nutes?

2) I recently read a post about counting your flowering days from the first pistil growth and not from when you switch lights. Should I do this? I had never done it before and I did harvest early every other time. When should I expect the first pistil to come in? I never really paid attention before lol.

Anyway, I really hope Jilly treats me good during our time together. If that bitch cheats on me and gets Spider Crabs, Whiteflymydia, or Moldorrhea I'm gonna be real pissed! haha She is looking faithful so far though. I plan on updating this once a week with progress reports.

i switch over immediatly and have great results growing under my 1000watters hps lamps. And I have never heard of the pistol growth thing and nor do i count weeks either, I just use a microscope and check out my tric. and see what color they are. Milky=ready if you want dark brownish orange=HARVEST ME NOW lol. good rule of thumb. you can even just use a magnifying glass too, works fine. but thats the only real way to tell where your plant is at!

lol. dont need any of those damn spider crabs. they are a real bitch lol. But if you do ever catch a case of the crabs i highly suggest mycotrol O organic pesticide. You can use it at any point in your growing cycles (although I dont reccomend it for early clones or if you need to do it during flowering do it lightly. It is used commonly for tobacco which people obviously smoke so i havent had any issues with it and dearly love having it on the shelf! oh and yea it will last you forever.

bloom nutes aren't needed well ,ever, to be honest, but you should stay away from them at least till you see flowers.

Here they are at day 9 of flowering, looks like the hairs are just starting to pop out.

How long does the stretch phase last? Because I put them in at about 15 inches and they are only up to about 20 inches now.

Looking good! The "stretch" lasts about two weeks or so, but the pheno that you have is going to stay short and bushy. You're definitely not going to have a height problem. I put mine into flower at about 19" and they just finished at about 31". Thats just the plant, not the pot. I was talking to our mutual friend last night and and he told me when you are leaving. This harvest took 58 days until the trichs were 90% cloudy and 10% amber, so I'm not sure that you're going to be able to get to harvest before you leave on your trip unless you harvest a little early. Do you know anyone that has the knowledge and integrity to harvest for you while you're gone?

I ONLY count from when I first start seeing pistols. I don't count days, I only count weeks completed to get me into the general harvest window for my strains then it is more individual. I pressonally feel very strongly about waiting till I see flowers because that will happen at a different point for each strain. It also will very greatly depending on the maturity of those specific plants. My mature clones usually only take 5-7 days to start to show flower, where as a plant from seed recently took about 2 weeks because it wasn't mature. Most of the time if I see the tiniest pistols on friday I won't even start the first week till monday just to keep my schedule even. That is just me giving them a little head start, but I feel that this method is by far the most accurate for getting to the harvest window. I see guys on here all the time counting from the day they switch and then wondering why their buds don't look like much at we'll say day 20. The reason is because those plants weren't really budding for 20 days they were prolly only budding for about 7-10 days. You also see the guys all the time asking when their plant will be done or is this ready yet? They say they have been flowering for 7,8,9 weeks and the buds really don't look even close to done, well again its because they aren't really at 8 weeks they are at 5-6 weeks and need alot more time. If you equate any amount of stress into this it can take even longer for them to mature completely.
