So you guys have been to a cup before? Whats it like, I'm going to the cup on 4/20 in denver and I want to get genetics if I can. Are there just booths set up with them for sale, or what. Also what is the smoking situation like, do I NEED to bring it with me or is there actual judging and stuff there to smoke. I know it won't be "for sale" but I wasn't sure what to expect.

There were booths set up with seeds for sale. Lots of good genetics, Ken Estes was there with clones, reserva privada, cali connection, TGA, Kyle Kushman etc...The smoking situation was everyone was smoking!!! Edibles, hash, flowers were all for sale and everyone was walking around to the booths with shit eating grins on their faces. We weren't allowed to judge the strains( I've heard that these "competitions" are bought before the judging begins anyway). All in all a good time.

Some good reviews can be found in this thread(go to like page 16 for the reviews):

Awesome I'm hoping that Denver is the same way thats what I was hoping for. I didn't care about voting persay, but it could have been cool. As long as I can get some buds and get some genetics I'll be thrilled.

Hey guys sorry for lagging on this, I let my Dad borrow the SD card reader and forgot to grab it when I was at his place. Anyway, here's Jilly looking mighty sexy at day 47!

---The smell is sooooo incredible! A very fruity and citrus smelling bud.

--- The crystals are really kicking in now, All the big fan leaves on the bud sites are halfway sugar-coated.

--- The bud's are just this week starting to finally pack on some weight and bulking up, I am hoping this continues until they are in their finishing stages.

--- I have been using Gravity and just started giving it a small feeding of Big Up Powder, as well as my normal nutes, and all seems to be golden right now! Or should I say emerald? ;P

So i have run into an interesting situation here. Day 60 is today, but 3 days ago an explosion of white hairs came out of all my buds and they are still covered with nearly 95% white hairs. I checked the trichs too and they are almost all just cloudy, no amber. I thought this strain was a max 60 days? They certainly don't seem to be done to me. How many days left do you think they have until they are fully mature? I have been flushing for 6 days now. Here is a picture from thursday when the hairs came out, still looking about the same, maybe a little more hairy.151.jpg

One common reason I attribute plants taking a week or 2 longer then some people expect is how you are counting your days. Now before anyone jumps down my throat I've heard it all and we all do things for certain reasons these are mine.

Many, but not all people count their flowering time from when they put the plant into a 12/12 cycle when growing in a controlled environment. However the plants DO NOT begin flowering the moment you change the light cycle. The plants go through a transition phase(which is what its called look at the side of some nutrient bottles), this is commonly when they also stretch in size. During this phase the plant is using the extra dark period to build up hormones which cause it to begin flowering. Then once the plant begins to "clump" its nodes and push out pistils it has began to flower.

So where I'm going with this is I (as do many others, and almost all outdoors growers) don't say my plants are flowering(or count any time) until my plants start to flower. With fully mature genetics, this usually takes my plants about 4-5 days. With immature genetics it can take 2 weeks, sometimes longer. This is why 12/12 from seed grows don't start flowering a week after the plant sprouts, the genetics must mature. I believe this is the number one cause of plants getting cut 2 early, and the number one reason for all the "are my plants finished" or "how much more time" threads that litter RIU. If everyone counted from when they saw pistils, (not preflowers) people would on average give their plants 1-2 more weeks I think. That being said I also don't advocate harvesting with alot of amber, as its a sign the THC has began to degrade. I'm all for waiting till you see a few for sure to ensure all the rest are good and cloudy, but I never go more then 5% or so. I've been running the same white widow genetics for 3 years and have toyed with leaving it longer but never found it to make a "stronger" or really much different smoke. So I cut around 7.5-8 weeks and its always sublime.

Thanks thundercat, I had read you talking about that subject in another thread and actually referenced it in a question in my original post on this thread. So harvesting with a lot of white hairs is too soon right? I'm thinking of giving plain water with Gravity/molasses for another week until the hairs have mostly turned and the buds look ripe.

I agree with Thundercat. I've not once harvested in the time that is listed on a particular seed package (including JillyBean). You say that you only vegged for 25 days which is a bit short for most strains to reach sexual maturity from seed. Go by looks not days.

I'd love to know the dosage and frequency you've been running the gravity and purple max? I've tried both before and TBH shit the bed with them as far as my plants went... yours look beautiful for running both. Been scared to try em out again, but might give it a go as they're just sitting there... Did you cut nutes back and/or raise lights?

Jilly has been my all time favorite wake and bake strain, like you took a hammer to a tangerine every time you open the jar. Got her sister Agent Orange vegging right now.

Great job on yours, can't wait for the finish! I'll definately be checking back in for the harvest!

I've usually got some white hairs when I harvest, and I 've seen grows that the whole plant looks like it has white hairs and the grower is certain the that trichomes are mature, 90-100% cloudy. Hairs will depend alot on strain. You've been watching the trichs so wait till you hit that point. It sounds like you've got a good plan with another week of light feeding. I usually stop all water a few days before harvest to let the plant use up the last of what its got.(when I can)

Diggindirt I have never used purple maxx, but tried gravity one time. I raised my lights and lowered my nutes a bit when I added it. I'm not sure if I could notice a difference with or without it and once I found articles stating that several of humbolt county's own products have carcinogens in them I have steered away.

Thanks Diggindirt! It's been amazing what these plants can put up with pertaining to nutrients. I have been blasting them with full force nutes and gravity without raising the lights, and I have ecperienced nothing but green, green, and the big fan leaves turning purple! It's been awesome how thirsty they are for food. I did feed the gravity on a nutrient off day with molasses. I am not sure if this took away it's effects or not? lol Anyway, the buds are getting heavier by the day, I just looked at them and they are leaning further than yesterday! So I am excited to see what happens in the next week :D.

I've been informed by some experienced growers that they did the actual testing and there was a 10-30% increase in THC levels with between 24-72 hours of darkness respectively. I have tried it and can't say I noticed a difference in the smoke, but if you have the ability to do it I say go for it. Typically I run a perpetual grow so its not easy to just shut the light off for 3 days. However I would like to do a side by side some day if I get to have my buds tested ever.

I kinda fear too what's 'actually' in those products... can't be worse than cigarettes which I sucked on for 14 years, but still... Never had a problem with Sub's strains frosting up, so I suppose they'll keep sitting there.

Without lab testing on side-by-sides, I won't do a dark period. I do like to clip about an hour before the lights come back on as I don't like the plants drawing back from the soil, but I suppose this is all in my head as the right way to go, nothing to base this off of. I also like a heavy watering the day before I chop so that it slows down the drying a bit for chlorophyl breakdown.

See I've had great result doing the contrary for slower drying man. Several times when I've had the room to do it, I pulled my plants out of my flood tray and left them under the light on harvest day and left them a few days till the leaves all wilted and the stems got real flexy. This I believe allowed the plant to start drying on the stem and really told it the end was here. Whenever I have done this I have noticed them drying more evenly and having better taste. I don't have the room to do it anymore, so they get chopped, the big fan leaves get pulled off and they get hung. Then 5-6 days later when they are starting to get crispy on the surface but are still wet inside I trim the rest of the leaves and toss them in a paper bag for a couple days, then in jars.
