I'm not sure I'm following you here Cory. I'm no accountant, but I am a business owner, and as such I do not get to write off the goods that I'm selling. If someone writes me a check for those goods, and that check subsequently bounces and I'm not able to collect upon that debt then I can write that off at the end of the year. But by no means am I able to write off the goods that I purchase from the manufacturer. A 100%+ profit margin is an extremely lucrative profit margin for a middle man. Those types of margins are typically only realized by manufacturers who sell directly to the public. Each time a good passes hands the profit margin typically gets slimmer, and more expensive for the consumer.

The bottom line for me with dispensaries is trust. I don't inherently have a problem with them. If I had a crystal ball and new that they weren't actively trying to sell caregivers and patients down the river to protect their own monetary interests then I would be fine with them .... but as it stands we have no assurances of that, and until that time I am very leery of what their motives are.
Dispensary interests have repeatedly stated in public and the press that caregivers are dangerous and irresponsible in order to marginalize us and hawk their own schtik. Statements that our product and methods are unsafe and of poor quality have been made. No business likes competition. Hell. I once devised a program to counter competition for a national company and know the ins and outs, but it was not necessary to disparage the competition's business model. Rather, the company used its resources combined with technological advancement to outperform the competition. Dispensaries obviously have no intention to use competitive advantage, but to malign us to make their money. We will need to lobby hard against HB 4271 which would hand dispensary and other corporate interests the keys to the kingdom.

....what man? How is that bill the keys to the kingdom? we ALL disparage our own product! Read any farm market thread I dare you: try not to find where someone mentions dirt weed and shwag. Its true, caregivers ourselves disparage each other whole fucking sale right here on this site. The disp sells goods from caregivers do they not? will they still be buying from caregivers? yep! Don't get mad at them because 1 in 20 people show up asking 300 per ounce for their absolute DIRT pot all day. Whats he going to do smoke it all and inspect every gram? Testing of product is a must if they intend to provide good shit to people.

It is a more than subtle difference where we are policing ourselves, whereas monied and government interests are in an effort to write us out of existence, just as Lowell and his fellow dispensary operators, Hubbard Law, the Michigan Municipal League, the Michigan Township Association, and the Prosecutors' Association have done and continue to do. Local ordinances and moratoria, in tandem with 4271, have the potential to destroy our fun altogether.

you really think the limiting of 5 patients is a good thing? I look at the card holders I know and they either live in apartment, federal subsidized housing (aint no grow in that shit!) and rentals they can't do anything with. They have to use a dispensary. I don't want those people to get anything but the best and its got to be tested and held to a standard. I've met ALOT of patients who shit their pants when they see I use a lab and have records of how everything was grown etc. because they have been to 4-5 "caregivers" who slop job junk or resale pot themselves and don't grow anything. I have the bill right here, read it 2 times myself and went to one of Matt Able's talks about it so please tell me where the keys to the kingdom are in that thing? You can't have legalization of any sort and have it be a wild west basement show too. It changes NOTHING As far as self produced pot and doesn't tinker at all with the act and the caregiver structure; you still have that. I'd like to see them amend the act to allow P2P and dispensaries but they are not. They are building on the existing act so you lose nothing that I see. please show it to me if I missed it.

You have my response.

the short version is: monies will be placed into the hands of a few (dispensary owners/crew) vs. spreading revenue throughout the state throughout more families. also, with a little investigation growers discover being somewhat boxed-out, as can be seen with the current Colorado model. the idea that dispensaries will continue to purchase herb from CG's is true, but sadly only-for-a-moment. They soon ramp-up and won't touch outside meds with a dead dogs dik. this has all played out in Colorado and is not a theory. provision centers will flood the market with everyone's weed but yours, it won't be pleasant!

why does everyone hate on dispensary owners so bad? so they want to make a profit for their hard work, huge investment, and the ever present risk of being shut down, or worse. No one has a gun to their head making them go buy weed there......the shit grows on trees, literally, remember?

I like when people make money. I wish more people did just that.

Nobody is hating on them. If things were done properly there's room at the table for everyone.

But this bill was passed by the public for patients and caregivers. Not dispensaries. If any of my rights get compromised as a result of them wanting a seat at the table, then I will be pissed. Corporate interests have hijacked everything else in our life, it would be nice to hold on to just this one thing.

yeah.....again why would this one thing be the only thing we think of in this way? cancer drugs are the highest in decades to pay for. AIDS (remember that??) treatment is right there with the cancer drugs. if your life is on the line more money is being made not less. not that it's right, I don't think it should be this way but I see my world and how it turns and if we don't turn with it we aren't going to get what we want. CG and PT is in the act and won't be changed you need a 2/3 for that; that's the same shit I hear when I cry about the P2P being changed, its nearly impossible. money is power and we're limiting our money and therefore power as far as the movement goes.

I hope you're right Cory. Aside from that, I really have no issues with dispensaries or how much they choose to charge.

I still think farmers markets are the better distribution model but that's probably DOA.

There are some people that depend upon these meds. Their rights come before money in my books.

If you call that being a "do gooder" then I'm guilty as charged.

Not that I really give a rats ass what you think of me.
i agree and when those in need are taken care of .its about money after that....you grabed this outa the air i dont care who makes money i know im going to get my slice ov the pie

Ontop of that not everyone who needs the medicine knows a grower or caregiver but they see the sign on the building yes they pay a markup, which is understandable due to cost of operations. But at the same time buying zips for 150 selling them to the patients for 450 is wrong, i understand a markup but i dont get why they gotta screw the patient in the process.

Because they can. Prohibition drives cost.
