Any Professional Movers Out There?

I am moving from California to Florida and want to bring my stuff with me. I am not sure about the movers and I am not sure about driving across the country with it in my car. I was going to bring a LBS with me to last till I get set up out that way. Do movers get checked via dogs at weigh stations? If I box it deep inside my stuff will it survive? I am heading out that way to help campaign for Medical and want to live near a warm ocean and cheaper rent.

i worked for a moving company for 6 years did cross country trips all the time never got checked or anything but stuff could be diffrent now never know
