Does anyone have any recommended brands for portable A/C units that have a hose you vent outside with?
My concerns are reliability and lower power consumption aka energy efficiency. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you HAVE to run portable, I would get a dual hose. A single hose pulls air from the room. Dual pulls from outside through hose 1, then removes heat through second hose. It's not perfect but definitely better than a single. A dual is much better if you're gassing, so you're not constantly pulling co2 out.

They are very inefficient. As Xmatox said, a dual hose is useable...somewhat. My window unit went out last summer and I borrowed a portable of equal size. I was glad I only had to use it for 4 days. If there is any way you can use a window unit instead, your better off, or even better a mini-split. In a small room you might get by. Make sure you use the exhaust duct that comes with the unit. I tried to extend it and it wouldn't cool.

Thanks guys and potentially any girls.

This place has some really low prices on mini splits. A Frigidaire for as low as $252 with blower and condensor. I am not sure if they include shipping.

Years ago I had a server room and we used two portables and vented through the ceiling to try to keep up with the heat. I think we also had 2 ducts from two main office a/cs in there too.

I would definitely go with a mini split over a portable if you can. Your time, and plants will thank you!

If u have to get a portable ideal air makes pretty good ones. Great customer service too. I have two 12k btu. One in veg and one supplementing my 10+ year mini split (24k) in flower. As said before they are very inefficient however keeping my rooms cool is my main concern. Soon upgrading my mini and then i will just use them in veg and for drying when its warm.

De Longhi Brand in Europe have portable models called Penguino or PAC but price wise average $350. I got a Penguino which cost around $600+ Great AC and also Humidifier and Fan mode.
If you are lucky sometimes you can find them at $250 special offers at times even less, quality wise I liked it.
Amazon has some examples but all were minimal $350 Upwards...:wall:

BLACK+DECKER BPACT08WT 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control
Around $250 there is a Black and Decker, no idea if any good...but it has 80 reviews and mostly positive :)
For a $15 more we have the LG :
LG LP0817WSR 8,000 BTU 115V Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control in White Portable Air Conditioner

I also notice Global Air seems to be fairly economic in price but average reviews and I don't know this brand.

Personally i'd go for :
1. Delonghi - if on Special Offer.
2. Black and Decker because hardware equipment like drills etc they have been doing for years so it ought to be durable.
3. LG, interesting Brand, jack of all trades and to be honest they are not too bad at whatever they do.8)
