having too much humidity for new cuttings?

My 1st batch of clones did not go too well. The humidity here is never over 20 (desert climate). So this 2nd time around I built me a homemade dome, but even that wasn't enough to get it up high enough, despite constant misting. So now I just purchased a humidifier and placed it IN the dome. Is that going to cause problems? Should I place it outside the dome instead? Or is this tropical rain forest environment actually good for freshly cut clones?

I just bought a jiffy heated greenhouse from lowes for $35 works great but the dome is not very tall (it's more for seedlings)

but what I am trying to tell you is simply put a heat mat (or heating pad) under your homemade dome thingy don't let temps get above 80F ,,it evaporates the water in the bottom and fills dome with humidity :weed:

saw one guy put a lightbulb in a metal ammo box to make a heated resting place

also keep an eye on the water in the bottom, I once let it dry out and lost the clones when the medium got to hot

and don't forget to open the dome 3 or 4 times a day for oxygen

There is no "under" to put a heat mat. What you are looking at is a bubble cloner (DWC). My plants are dangling over water. I keep the water heated to a constant 75 though (should I go even higher?).

So considering that I cannot place a heat mat under them, is the heated water and the humidifier good enough? I pretty much lost all of my 1st cuttings. Hoping to correct those problems this time.

I dont know if a tropical rainforest environment is necessarily good for them but higher humidity is certainly better than lower humidity. Ideal humidity for clones should be around 60% and make sure you have a heat pad underneath them to help them take root.

In your case, you want the heat and humidity up top...not in your solution. I keep my solution at or below 70°F in my aeroponic cloner and have a 100% success rate with my clones.

GREAT! Thanks. I'll drop the temp then. I just read somewhere that 75 was best, but I can't argue with 100% success.

Ah.. Well, thought I read somewhere that 80-90% was best for clones. 60% being best for veg. Not positive though.

Either way, heating mat is not an option.

I got ya. I can honestly say I have no more information to offer you Im afraid. I have only cloned the one way. Good Luck!
