Any Water Filter Gurus?

I just bought a water filter from a thrift store for 5 bucks. Its very similar to this: http://www.zorotools.com/g/00057564/k-G1827016?utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLA

Its a chemical filtration system

I was curious how well something like this would work for DWC. I havent pH'd the water yet as I havent hooked it up. And I still need to order new filter.

The filters will be carbon filters. I currently use RO water that i refill at a local station. But going multiple times every weekend is getting redundant. I want to eventually buy a RO filtration system, but while I was out thrifting today I came across this...

hydro logic makes the best pre-filters and r/o filter for growers of all levels in my opinion. if you are going to use an r/0 filter then you should always have a pre filter which consists of a chlorine and sediment cartridge.

Ok. So what I would do, when I get an RO filter, I could use the one I have now as a pre filter. But for now, im going to see if this this is actually worth using.

DJ,
It'll help. One thing it will do is to remove chlorine and chloramine and I've heard claims that they will drop ppms a bit too. Just measure ph and ppm of water before and after and that will tell the story...

That filter should not do anything to the pH of the water, and will slightly reduce the ppm's in the water. It will remove the chlorine from the water, and a few chemicals as well. As for the RO system mentioned above, there are much better quality reverse osmosis systems on the market that will filter out a lot more than what these systems will at a lower cost. But, if you are running to the store to get bottles of reverse osmosis water, then you may want to look in to getting a reverse osmosis system. They will save you a lot of time, and money in the long run.

You want a RO/DI system. 6 stage 7stage is even better if you can find one.
The DI strips the ions from the water keeping your pH from fluctuating.

Thanks man. I just picked up that filter mention above for 5 bucks at a thrift store. Figured it be better than tap water. I use neither, i have a RO dispenser station near home. But I will be buying one soon. Ill also be using it for my house to justify the costs.
