any way to determine strain?

No , i don't think it's possible, because i've seen different kind of plants and thye look the sam as in color,shape,etc. The only info u cud probably determine is wheter it's indica more or sativa .

pretty much what he said.

it's almost impoissible to tell from just looking at it in veg.

and even after it flowers, normally you wont be able to just pick out the strain.
