Any way to shorten the top of a plant besides topping?

First of all, I am sort of new to growing. Outdoors that is. I've never grown indoors either. I have been outdoors for a few years but it has always been just plain old bag seed, nothing particularly big or fancy. I never used very good soil, I didn't do anything really. Just poor growing really. Recently I bought some Super silver haze, a strain known for its towering height. I've never went all out like this, like bought fertilizers, ph, the whole shebang. So I'm probably very naive. I'm worried about the height of my plants. I know my neighbors and they are mildly okay with my grow, but is there any ways to avoid my colas falling into my neighbors yard (if they actually will get like 7 feet)? Will topping shorten the plant enough? Can I bend the main branch to that it grows to the side and support it with bamboo sticks or something? I'm thinking of anything. It's not a huge deal, if my neighbor complains i'll throw him the middle finger. It's just a plant.

topping is great, not only does it shorten the plant, but that 1 top becomes 2+. dont be scared to do it. i was the first time, and i have topped my plants REPEATEDLY since. now i grow it. (1 cola) top it, (2 colas) top each of those (4) then perhaps top them again if the growth is uneven, or they need to wait to go into flowering (5-10 tops). it keeps it from looking less like a tree and more like a bush.

the other option... tie it down. not as great if its not topped before.

will it reach 7 feet? yea. mine reach 6 feet after i top them repeatedly. outdoors, no topping, you could reach 12-15 feet (depending on strain)

You have a lot of options. Topping or FIM'ing is easy and should be done early in veg state. If you are not
comfortable topping her go ahead and bend the main stem (cola) over and tie her down. Be sure to consider
how your plant is oriented towards the light source if/when you tie her down. Remember that more light =
more/bigger buds. So when you manipulate the plant, do so so that you are exposing more of the branch ends,
bud sites, to the light source. If your plant is directly under the light you will want to adjust it if you tie the top down.
Stand behind your plant and look toward the light. You should be looking over top of the fullest part of the plant.

For future reference you can modify plant size by using a small pot.

Good luck, BigSteve.
