For vegging you want more blue light, get yourself a small metal halide or some compact fluorescent in the 6500k range.

For flowering you want more redish light, get yourself a high pressure sodium lamp + reflector and ballast. You can also use compact fluoescents for flowering but the final yeild won't be as great. If you do choose to go with cfl's for flowering get them in the 2700k range and get lots of them.

Also you might want to have a look at some grow journals here, and do what mogie suggested and go through the FAQ's.

cmon ppl please help my seeds are almost ready for planting
Ermm.. I rember a post about "failing to plan then plan to fail"... or something similar.. You should ALWAYS plan out your entire grow before you start. Lighting, water, space, temp conditions.. all of that.

My suggestion is using an HPS light found from stores like Home Depot. I have (12) 26w CFL's (daylight) but hopefully I can get a hps as soon as my bank account goes above $1,750.. again

How many plants are you growing? I suggest if using cfl 2-3 26w cfl's the daylight (blue glowing) ones.. there cheap at walmart and put out like 1,600 lumens each... But ofcouse you will need more as your grow progresses into the flowering stages.
