Anybody using solar power?

Lmao! 30-50K will power a house with solar fool! You do the research!
not even close. i looked into it hard a year ago cause i have the space to do it. it would have cost me $120k for EVERYTHING installed to handle the load of my house. even a smaller home with less draw than me is still looking at $80k. to do a decent sized 4,000w grow you are probably looking at $50k unless you don't do a battery bank which would be pointless.

But we're talking about growing, not a typical house. I priced together a 5kW solar system and it was ~50k. You'll make that back eventually and in most cases you can find government subsidies, but it does cost quite a bit if you want continuous high power supply. If you aren't going with batteries and instead feeding the grid during the day and pulling from it at night then it is definitely much less expensive. Oh, and I should mention that 50k was on the cheap side... my in-laws just spend $120k on a solar system for just their house - granted it is a large house.

There's a thread around here about growing off grid which covers a bit of solar talk.
lol...i don't know how we came up with the same numbers gas. too funny.

Not 'funny', real life, real $$$$$.:hump::hump:

I've been thinking of this since the late 60's. When they run out of shit to sell, like coal, gas, oil, and nuclear scares the shit out of everyone, then .... maybe.

Like I said, not in my lifetime.

I saw on one of Nico Escondidos grow like a pro movies doing one of my countless hours of cannabis research and there was a nice setup he showed that they used solar panels in this like house type setup that was good size they had a generator and solar panels. They had a shed full of batteries to store the built up electricity its was pretty tight. I cant remember which one it was on but you can watch them all on You tube if you wanns spend an hour in a half watching the full video i have all of them and jorge cervantes grow stuff i cant get enough cannabis knowledge. It is expensive tho these people that do it spend alot of money they showed one of the growers that had a huge water tank that was like 50,000 gallons shit the army uses it was like 30 feet long 10 feet wide and when filled was like 10 feet high crazy shit huh.

They showed all the tarps and shit on the hill and collected a good portion of there water from the rain it would be nice huh to have the money to invest in tarps to cover a hillside to fill your 15,000 dollar water tank

i'm a high end spec home builder and we do a lot of UPS and backup generator installations in the home i build. i have tons of contacts in the industry and shopped it around for almost 6 months. $120k fully installed to run my house. $80k to run an average 4-5 bedroom U.S. home.

you seem to be forgetting that 4,000w of lighting on 12/12 pulls more juice in a month than most mid sized homes. that's not even including a/c, dehumidifiers, pumps, fans, etc...

$50k to run a grow op completely off grid is a conservative estimate. homes don't pull continuous draw like grows do.

Yeah... so 4kW in lights, 1kW in other grow equip, leaving nothing for regular house tasks = 5kw constant draw. Say you want to run 18/6 or 24/0, that means you need to pull over double your draw to pack away during the dark which means you need ~12kW in panels which alone cost from $30k for static panels laying on the ground to $70k for tracks and that's not taking into account the assload of batteries for the night, and we're not talking about a standard bank or even a double bank. Of course the cost of labor and amount of labor also great vary between different locations.

I think it's an awesome idea if you have the money but it definitely takes considerable start up funds. But then every now and then you can get em installed for damn near free if the write offs stack the right way.

I think you should do it for cheap through your friend and make a thread on it. I'd subscribe.
