I know a guy on a different board that swears by the aquamist, claims you can get 2 lbs every ten weeks with this unit. Anyone with personal experience or any ideas as to whether or not this would be a good investment please feel free to let me know.

I'll check back on this thread in between educating myself with the great info that can be found on this site. Thanks All

Hello Danny,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the advice and the FAQ section is great, however I'm simply horrible when it comes to putting stuff like that together. I prefer a proven system and preferably with a instructional dvd. I have my grow room ready and have ordered some beans, just need to figure out the most efficient and easiest way for a rookie to get a hydro system going.

ANY links to proven and cost effective systems would be greatly appreciated.

I am no expert but it seems that most aero systems are designed similarly
(in function)
some systems may out perform others, but there are so many factors involved in growing that I think good gardening habits will make the largest difference in your harvest.
Now let's talk money, after searching the web I decided it would be cheaper to build my own.
but as you indicated that's not your cup o' tea. which is probably for the best
as I have bits of tubing and connectors strewn about my house .
So in light of your question, I just googled "Aeroponic systems" there are many, and it seems that prices vary greatly, but depending on how many grow sites you have in mind. if only a few, then you can get a small set up for less than 100.00 US. if you shop around a bit. Didn't see one with a DVD but they are pretty easy to set up as there are few parts I'm sure you'll manage.
Good luck,
Danny

The problem with everybody always bad mouthing the high priced ready made units, then telling members that they can build one cheaper,or tell them to look at designs in the grow faq is that not a single DIY Areo system anywhere has the simplicity or contain enough info to help anybody but experienced areo grower.

Areo noobs need exact info as to the exact misters they need, where to buy them, what exact pumps to use, what cycles to use, what nutes to use for different stages of the grow.

Reccomending a diy is great but unless that reccomendation comes with some meat on it,meat showing a noob step by step what & where to buy its a valueless comment, most areo noob's will never attempt to build a unit without knowing what & where.

I have the aquamist III and yeah it could be built cheaper but for me personally it was worth buying it and more than paid for itself first harvest there are a few cautions with them but I am buying more instead of building

Nicely put both of you thanks,as I was thinking 'you know i ought to save up for this $499.99 unit?'It seems more durable (the Aquamist) than most units out there. In the long run with these units I need 1 thing more than anything, and that's day by day direction on these systems before i write everything down for referance.I will always use soil (?) here and there, as soil is more fogiving when it comes to a mistake. Any way Thanks for the thoughts on this.

I've got an Aquamist IV, and while I like it I think the deeper chamber (bigger res) in the Rainforest makes it a better unit. As well I'm not fond of the central sprinkler system in the Aquamist (and Rainforest too) and made a PVC pipe grid for 320 degree sprayers.

Here's a short thread I did on the Aquamist:

Aquamist IV

DrKleenGenes I'm building a simple areo system - an upgrade to my Aquamist, if I don't see a better system in this sub-forum to link for you I'll send you a private message when I have my system done and tested, I'll post a thread with some pics and a parts/supplier list.

hey danny im looking to build an aquamist system, but im having a hard time finding your instructions on the site. If you could send me a link or email me the instructions at [email protected] it would be greatly appreciated!!

This is not true. You do a search for T.A.G.
TRUE AERO GARDENING.
The men that have done extensive amounts of research, and invested time and money have got it down to a science. The biggest hurdle to overcome is the constant expense of the system. You need very high-end pumps to produce the propper amount of pressure. Thenyou need expensive misters (Not NTF sprayers that claim aero). Then you need 200 mesh filters, and they need to be replaces each grow. TRUE aeroponics is very costly and that is one reason it is not mainstream. That is the major contributing reason why I stopped. I just couldn't keep up with the non stop investment in irrigation equipment.
On the other hand there are a lot of aero systems that more resemble NFT than actuall aeroponics. The difference is simple... what I call NFT sprayer spray at very low pressure, and produce a "spray". The system I had and am referring to actualy produce a mist so fine that a camera can't even see it.

These misters are on full blast at 60psi, you cannot even tell that they are on. Here is my thread that turned to hell LOL.

Here is thread that is very in depth on "True" aeroponics

I guess everyone has their favourite growing method..some prefer the KISS approach and others like more of a challenge
Its best to test the mist outside in bright sunshine otherwise it wont show up in the pic. The pic shows 75psi mist.
Low pressure aero is a very effective growing method, i just prefer this as its more interesting

I have noticed many users on this site are very interested in the Aquamist 1 system, but are simply turned off by the price tag. Well I may have a solutition for you. I have some great contacts in the wholesale industry which has given me the ability to duplicate the system. The system I can produce is 2x6 which is 50 larger than the aquamist system. The components are equal or greater in quality, and the price tag is the same! Just thought I would make the offer and see if it helps. Let me know if its something you are interested in. I would be glad to help you save some money.

FYI, I spent that healthy price tag about 7 years ago. Ironically, it was about the same price then. (Aquamist I is the one I use). It has paid for itself time and time again.

Since then, I have built my own systems. Pretty much everything from the rubbermaid tubs to pvc systems. Of course these were home made not the nice fancy ones u can buy.

I have common issues with all of them over time. But that is to be expected. (i.e. pumps fail over time, misters clog or wear out, etc)

That being said. There are things I love about it, some things not so much.

Things I love (not in any order):

1. It has an outlet (with a valve and a cover that fits a garden hose, so you can use the pump to drain the system.

2. The tub is made from a sturdy (black) plastic with a recessed area that the pump rests in (if u use the stock pump).
notes:
a. at the time the pump finally failed, I needed one fast so I had to get one at Lowes. Also at the time prices were significantly cheaper. However, I just looked at the Aquamist site and the prices are now comparable.
b. I had the tub spring a leak once. However, it was probably my fault as I am not the most careful person (especially under the influence of my medicine :eyesmoke:). This was easily remedied by using a little marine sealant. But I am sure any non toxic sealant like aquariam sealant would work just fine. It just happened to be all I had at the time.

3. It has a low profile. It sits low to the floor and has its own pvc stand that the tub sits in. The tub can be removed from the stand just by lifting it out.

4. It has interchangeable tops. Two tops sit on top of the unit. You can mix and match for your needs.

5. I am still using it after all these years. Very versatile. I have used it for cloning, vegging, flowering.

6. I like the approx. 2 X 4 footprint.

I am sure there are a lot more, but you get the picture.

On the other end it also has its cons:

1. Due to the fact that it is not as deep as say a rubbermaid, you have to watch your roots closer so the dont clog the pump. But that is true to all units that dont have a seperate resevoir.

2. The tops don't seal so you will most likely have a little overspray. (I solve this by using that black styrafoam type stuff used to insulate pipes I think. Cheap at Lowes. Kinda looks like one of those floaty noodle things people use at the water. Anyway, It is already hollow and scored, so it is easy to cut down to size and split with a boxknife. then I slide it on the edges of the tub.

I can't think of much more to complain about it right now.

I have tried to be as honest as I can. But overall, I think that if you can afford it is well worth the investment. Like I said, It has paid for itself time and time again.

Here is a link to their homepage. (unfortunately you cant order online, you have to call or mail. I called and had great customer service)
