Anyone Know About Car Audio?

see the only problem with the 100 subs in the truck is negative pressure causing some subs to contort and beat off key and muffle sound waves. If you have enough free flowing air than gravy, but that rarely ever happens. I like it to sound like a symphony weather im listing to Beethoven, Screw, or even that robot sex music I cant think of what its called. Oh yea.. Dubb step lol.
That wasn't my truck obviously looks like a ton of work and effort went it though

I agree with what you're saying - I have always tried to get the best sound out of the system opposed to more noise

I have not been into car audio for about a year and a half - I lost me truck a while ago.

I used to do some competing and had nearly 10k invested in the stereo alone. For good sound you will have to spend close to 1k in my opinion to get anything decent. Make sure you do some pre-maintenance before you put a sub in any car. The vibrations will destroy anything. Dyno-mat the trunk with a minimum of one layer will stop that annoying rattling sound and help save inner parts from falling apart. I would get some loc-tight - thread locker and use it on as much as you can. Once a few bolts come loose you will never stop the rattling. I have always been a fan of loud nice sounding cars. I can not stand it when kids put a sub in a car un-tuned and pound the shit out of it. Just sound like shit.

I had 3 layers of dynomat throughout the entire truck - actually stripped it too bare metal pulling every interior piece out including the dash. Prep makes a huge difference.

As for a head unit I would suggest spending a little more and investing in something that will work for you. A cheap head unit does not allow you to program the eq to best suit your setup. Not sure if you are going to power just the sub with an amp or just the head unitr. If you are powering every speaker with an amp then spending a few 100 on a head unit is well worth it.

I always liked pioneer never had an issue with them - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer+-+50W+x+4+MOSFET+Apple%26%23174%3B+iPod%26%23174%3B-Ready+In-Dash+CD+Deck+with+MP3+Playback/2822336.p?id=1218354573849&skuId=2822336

You get what you pay for
Both are a bit more pricey but would be a better option in my opinion.

edit: if you don't want to do alot of prep work at the minimum please please put cork or rubber weather stripping around your license plate to stop the rattling
Thanks man.. Can you explain what the difference is between those head units you posted a link to and the ones I was looking at? I have no clue what I'm looking for all I know is I need one with a sub output, sub crossover, and customizable eq lol.

IMHO, you probably dont need a customizable EQ, save your money and buy a farad capacitor. A capacitor will store energy to use later when the bass goes deep and loud. You'll get better sound and protect your system better. A customizable EQ will be a pain in the ass if you dont know what you're doing. It could take hours to adjust. And it doesn't have to be a sub level output, as long as it has 1 set of RCA preamp outputs, you wont be able to control the sub on its own, but you can still adjust the levels.

There's really no big difference car audio usually boils down to preference in the end at this price point. Pioneer has always builds solid long lasting products. JVC / SONY / PANASONIC / ETC have there hand in all kinds of technology as do most but none have really mastered car audio. Pioneer has a few lines of product but deals greatly in car audio and it shows. Sony uses looks cheap labor to sell their product not quality. The explodes will explode lol.

There truth is there is not much difference between the stereo's the more expensive pioneer 129 i believe it was has a few more outputs than the other to allow for upgrading in the future and is ipod ready ( will need a special cable ebay is the best place to get it ) and has a better eq and will allow for easier tuning.

If you really want an EQ, I would get an external one. You'll spend another $100+ but WELL worth it in my opinion.

I said "I can not stand it when kids put a sub in a car un-tuned and pound the shit out of it. Just sound like shit."

Have you ever sat in a car that has a properly tuned stereo? A very big difference between a good setup and a shit setup. Why spend money on something that's going to sound like shit and break down in a year when you can invest a little more and have it last for many years?

You can spend 1000's on a system and it can sound like a $100 system if it's not setup right or you can spend 100's and have it sound like a system worth 1000's if its setup the right way.
Lol, you caught that huh. Just messin.

Now when you say tuned, no. I've never had an external eq, I usually just mess with the settings on the head unit. Pioneer has some pretty good "pre-set" eqs, and you can mess with them a lot. That's why I like pioneer, I think they make some of the best shit as far as head units. Kenwood is good too.

I'm far from an audio snob, but I get the point you were trying to make. But if he is looking at Sony xplods, I don't think he really would know the difference. He will be happy if it pounds.

poineer does make some quality stuff ime too... i'd stay away from 6x9's and the like and pick up a nice set of separates though for sure any day where you're getting a separate woofer and tweeter so that you get better mid's and high's than you'd get out of any set of 6 be 9's once again ime..
if you're just looking for something cheap, just make sure that you've got a couple of pre amps, and of course a detachable face nowadays is a smart choice... anything else at this stage is just bells and whisltes, and doesn't sound like you'd really know the differences..
