Start a compost pile, duh! Save all your kitchen scraps that don't contain meat - banana peels, egg shells, coffee grounds, rotten/spoiled produce, etc and start piling it up in your back yard. Add yard waste like dead leaves and twigs and grass clippings. If you have a bait shop nearby, get some worms to go in there too. If you can make some sort of structure to contain it, so it doesn't just spread out everywhere, that will also help.
Flip/turn the pile every couple weeks for like 8 months to a year, until it starts to look pretty thoroughly decomposed, and more like dirt almost.
Then mix that 50/50 with dirt from your yard and plant into it. It'll take a lot of time and some effort, but in the end it will be some seriously good soil for practically zero cost.
ETA: also if there are wild flowering-type plants and weeds growing in the "dirt" around your house, then cannabis will also probably grow in it. It won't be the greatest plant ever, and you might want to till the ground before just planting straight into it if it's really compacted, but still...
