Anyone know if acupuncture works for nerve pain?

Hey Alpha, nerve pain sufferer here also, L4 L5 to transition , I had surgery that helped, but still have pain.
In my search for relief I found d that acupuncture worked well, depending on acupuncturist. I had a great pain management/acupuncturist, then she stopped exceptin my insurance and the next two practitioner's yielded no help. Good luck in your search, back pain sucks.
That's exactly where my discs are messed up, l4, l5 and s1, it's causing lumbar lordosis now grr. That's great to know that you did find an acupuncturist that helped!! I'm going to try to find one in my area. The surgery I just won't do, you like many others I've talked to said it just made things worse or things stayed the same but then they lose range of motion. I already don't have enough range of motion because my back screwed so much other things up, si joints and other crap with my hip. You'd think by now they'd have some robotic back implant or something, the surgeries haven't changed much in the last 30 years, maybe they'll find something soon

I hurt my back pretty badly last year, laid up for almost 2 months. Here's something that I use for the pain, it is an amazing help with any back pain and migraines -

The passive motion (something moving you body for you while muscles stay relaxed) seems to get deep in there and fixes me up almost every time. You've probably seen Saul use it on Breaking Bad. I did a lot of research and this unit seems to be the best. I don't believe in chi, but it definately moves the lymph fluid around and aligns my spine. It's one of the best things I've ever purchased...

This looks wild, I've never heard or seen anything like that before! I'm going to buy one and give that a shot! I can tell it might work for me because it looks like it moves the parts of my back I try to stretch with the PT exercises

That's why I bought it, too. It looked like it would stretch the same areas as I was doing in PT. It works for all sorts of aches and pains, it energizes you, and it is relatively cheap. A few friends bought it after I let them try out a 15 minute session on it, they all love it, too. Good luck, bro...

ive got siatica and scoliosis , 4 herniated disk as big as 7 mills years ago in ym lower back . I wont let drs touch me now ,lol. Started p.t. when i was 17 ,lol. I feel the best ive ever felt at 55 . I made mine better with diet and supplements . I killed the inflammation which killed the nagging pain. But then after being sedantary since 02 till 2015 i cant pick up super heavy shit. i danced with a semi one day and added few herniations to my neck causing savere head pain from 97 to 2013. Constant pain is gone now. Totally different world than i was used too. Key stuff that helped me was , Angstrom magnesium , colloidal silver , mms , and supplements. When i was on workmans comp i did 15 months of therapy for my neck and back which made it worse. Always wiht the same result. Pain ! The best my back was besides now was when i cercuit trained and got my muscles strong to support me. But still could stop me in my tracks at set of siatic nerve spikes. I also havnt takin pain meds or big pharma muscle relaxers which made me worse off.. Thier useless for me. Been off them since 02. Theres a few sativa strains that relax the back much better than narcotic muscle relaxers ever could ! But that also mask the problem . you want to be loose without taking opiats or cannabis.
Hope you find a solution soon . Good luck .........
Thanks man, this is some great info!! I'm still on low doses of Norco,, dropped my dose down about 50% over the last 2 years just 2 a day now, and no more muscle relaxers. I'm definitely managing the pain alot better since I started smoking again which helps alot, at night i take some thc capsules that @Aeroknow got for me, they seem to work well at bedtime to keep the muscles from spasms and pain lower. PT screwed me up more as well, it never helped at all. I'll pick up some of the things you listed and give those a shot too. I'm in fairly good shape considering I can't do heavy lifting etc, I eat decent but could eat alot healthier, grew up with Italians so it's hard to break my eating habits lol. If I can get rid of the damn sciatic pain I'd be happy as hell, that's the most annoying thing about it and it flares up ALOT

Just curious if anyone has had success with acupuncture or any other alternatives besides back surgery.

I have some slipped discs and sciatica with my lower spine straightening from the injury. Tried all the different PT treatments from water therapy to regular PT treatments..

Want to get back to work soon so looking for something that REALLY helps.

I've tried tens unit and all of that already, too. So any ideas other than those listed would be cool.

And go!
Get an inversion table, use it at least 15 to 20 minutes a day, better twice a day. No exercise will really help unless it is a very minor protrusion. Pain alone is never an indication for spinal surgery, no matter what anyone tells you, only motor loss. At the first sign of motor loss, it's surgery time, because you keep the loss you went in with, typically. So don't stall if you lose motor.

Good luck

Good info to know, I didn't know it could cause loss of motor skills, what the hell else haven't my docs told me grrrr. They said if I start pissing my pants then there's some serious stuff going on so I took note of that.

I actually used to have an inversion table and it worked great! Only problem was I had high blood pressure at the time so when I would go upside down on it, it would basically make me pass out and be really dizzy. But my BP is under control (without atenolol and lisenipril, no meds now) and it's like 125/82ish, so maybe I'll give it a shot again. I actually ended up giving the one I had to a friend that loved it, so I have to get another one. Do you know of any good brands? I want the teeter hang up but I'm pretty sure that one's expensive

Have you ever researched Prolo therapy? My wife has your same problem in her neck. We're researching prolo therapy now. Not sure though the you tube footage showed like 70 shots or some shit. She's already had an epidural in her neck.

Its awesome. I used to go but there's not one where I live.

A good chiropractic that does acupuncture is the way to go. Be careful and research the person first.

The one I went to had a room with bean bags. When I got done I was so relaxed I would fall on the bags and lay there for a while in bliss.

I'm serious. You find a good one and they work great.

I have severe nerve pain in my arms and legs. They sting and burn. I find myself standing more than sitting.

Edibles and topicals help a lot. I also have one of those shocking units.

I have herniated disks and stenosis. I fell from right around 30 feet and landed on my shoulder, kneck and head. I broke my shoulder and put my clavicle into my lung. I was coughing blood.

This was right after 9/11. I was back to work in two days, broken bones and all. Its just the way the military is. "Suck it up and press on, bitch!"

I never healed right. I suffer with it everyday and was on a lot of opiates at one time. I came off them and went to cannabis. My quality of life is better.

3o foot fall? man and you're active still after decent recovery. yea infused lotion is a key for aches, rest even. tincture does the j, don't even need to vape then
I managed to grab things on the way down and to slow my fall. I got a VA disability from it.

Edit. It was around 25-30 foot. It was a cat walk to gain access to upper hanger areas. It was old and in bad condition. As my fellow veterans can tell you sometimes funds are short and you work with what you got. I shouldn't have been up there.

It had anchor bolts in concrete. They were old and weak. It gave out and fell a few feet and then turned sideways. I jumped as it did and tried to grab a pipe. As I did my hands come off of it and I hit the ground.
