Anyone notice prices for supplies are rising

I'm noticing more and more that prices for lighting, nutes and equipment is steadily going up; the ole supply & demand thing...

I'm now wondering if this is not just a general inflation thing but I'm wondering if the legalization trends has the public at large stirred up and home MJ growing now taking off...

any thoughts?

yeah that's true, but my thing is it seems some of the growing supplies are outpacing normal inflation...just sorta pontificating why...

It's called supply and demand... Happens when shit is legal. Heroin goes legal expect needles to jump in prices. Those poor diabetics will suffer from this.

price goes up when demand goes up and supply remains stagnant or decreases. when the market recognizes the information that the price change signals, supply can be adjusted and price eventually falls. its not just demand, as you point out, but supply and demand. heroin goes legal and the supply for hypodermic needles is still way outpacing demand, they'll still be cheap as fuck, no?

I don't know. I don't shoot up hah! I occasionally sniff a little H as it's good for making me focus for long periods of time when I need something done. and yeah, I guess you can say needles are cheap. they are, what, $5 for a 20 pack or something?

Go to HTG. Pretty consistent prices all around.

I was at my local hydro store yesterday and notice quite a bit of the inventory went up in price...now I might have to charge a bit more for my inventory.

Its probably because alot of people are switching to online shopping. So many deals so many competitors so the online market is thriving with who can mark DOWN their equipment the fastest and get the most business.

the only thing i've decided on buying from my local hydro store is the dirt...and i wish i could find it somewhere different. in fact, i might just this summer stock up on regular soil from lowes or something instead of buying the HF... inflation is certainly affecting the prices related to our hobby! i'm new and have noticed a price increase of the basics in just the past six months! if i can get it off of amazon or another hydro store cheaper than driving to the local shop, that's the route i'm going for. though i don't think my mail lady is cool at all! i think i'm pissing her off she has to get out of her vehicle so often lol

yeah I personally really try hard supporting the local hydrostores around here, and I get that its hard for a brick-n-mortar to compete with the likes of Amazon, but gheez sometimes after shopping there my butthole & wallet feels moist, stretched and abused....

heck anymore about the main thing I get is soil and some of the larger qty's of liquid nutes

...as far as Amazon goes, watch the price trend for specific equipment like T5 units; I swear I cop'd a 4x54 T5 for like a $100, now they don't sell for less than $120 not 6mos later

I usually shop at my local HTG supply. $10 for a cubic foot of pro mix. Lowes has the 2 cubic feet for $15, its a bit more compact to start, but nothing my hands cant fix.

Yeah ive gotten the compressed ones from home depot lowes and my local hydro store. I really like this nursery we have close by because all of their stuff is separated. promix has its own section away from other organic soils like roots that have a bunch of bugs in them usually.

When i bought my promix last time from the hydro store i had gnats and ive never had bugs in my whole life of growing. its probably because they store all their soil in the same room stacked next to each other.

Wish the HTG was a little closer to me. Its about an hour and some change away from me and the hydro store and nursery are like 15

I don't know because I still buy my salts for dirt cheap. It's still under 3 dollars a pound for calcium nitrate.

If you're growing in soil, there's no reason to even be looking at hydro nutes. Anything from home depot would work. (Jack's Classic, Miracle grow, Shultz, etc).

If needles jump in price, more people will jump on the heroin needle production bandwagon to take advantage of high needle prices.

In fact, if needle production rises enough, economy of scale may give diabetics an advantage.

I use HTG too but I'm slowly beginning to phase them out. I used to drive quite a ways to get their FFOF soil. Then I found a little gardening store that sells the shit 6 bucks a bag cheaper. I happen to know someone who can get some nice deals from them but I'm sure not one of them. So, a little more research proved that their prices can be beat substantial enough to move on.
They used to be a great source though for something quick until the last time I blew out a light and thats an emergency for me. I had to call them twice before it found its way to the UPS truck.

whats funny is if you think they jack up prices for gardenin; try the aquarium realm, hell plain ole rock salt is sold as "Aquarium Salt" for like 30X more...
even with Kessil LED's are almost double for the aquarium version...

that sucks ive always liked HTG for their amazing customer service. When i had my bulb blow out i called them, they said take it to the post office, send it to us, and if we got tracking for like 3 dollars they could send the replacement out the second the tracking number was sent. Keep in mind this bulb blew 2 weeks before the warranty was up!!! Because our power kept going out and my friend didnt know that youre supposed to let a bulb rest for X minutes before restarting it.

So i did that and had my bulb in a day and a half (one of the warehouses is only an hour and some change away). Used my old 150w to keep the ladies on their light cycle for the few days.

Ive also broken a few parts on my RO when assembling. Over turned some fittings and snapped em clean off. Messaged them and they sent me a full replacement pack for every part in less than 2 days and i didnt have to pay for a thing.

IMHO, id pay the few bucks extra for the good customer service i get from there. I love supporting my local store, but there are certain things where the mark up just hurts too much. Like stated above sometimes when i leave there i feel used and abused and so does my wallet.

The garden stores are where its at though. A real nursery has all the good shit for a good price because its not a "hydro store"

The price goes up because of inflation. You may notice other commodities are more stable, but this is usually because of gov't subsidies that allow inflation in certain areas to be unnoticeable. The US hedges inflation by outsourcing certain goods and services....This is obvious in goods that are made in China, it keeps consumer products artificially low during a time of a weak dollar.
