a few years ago at any given time, i would have a total of 50 net pots in use. i also use to run more plants in one tent that i do today.
Anyone run 2" net pots from clone to harvest?

I checked out your vid... how many watts of lights in that tent?
that would outgrow my whole tent.

Im growing in 2" solo cups that Ive melted holes into with a wood burner to create my net pot. I found quickly that the expanded clay that filled my pot was pinching the trunk and hindering growth. I fixed this by puting five expanded clay rocks at the bottom of the 2" basket, leaving an open space in the middle, placing a thin layer of foam over that with a hole cut in the center and a slit to let it pass around my trunk. placed another 5 or 6 expanded clay rocks ontop of the foam layer, again leaving the center open, then placing another piece of foam on top of that, also slit with a whole in the center. this way there is no restriction to the trunk and air can more easily get to the air roots. I noticed instant change in plant growth after doing this. i also cut a whole for the cups to fit into tightly in my rezervuar top. the cups hold tightly in place and the roots hold tightly to the net pot. the plant seems well ancored. ive also taken to adding aspran and epson salts to my nute mix and i must say, "WOW" what a differance i see in my plants. im using "jungle juice" nutes and that seems to be doing a decent job. one tip. aspran is going to drop your ph drastically. dont just drop the aspran into the rez with your plants. pre mix. it took my ph from 5.8 down into the high 3s. my 2" net pot grow is currently doing very well. im also mainlining with this to try and keep the plant from being top heavy. i also did a root trimming pretty early to promote and support a wider plant.

so i have decided to give this a go. i will use a trellis 6" off the tub to tie the the main stem for stability.
i've bought some HDX totes from HD.
on 4 of them i have drilled 1 hole in the center and made the 2" net pots a snap in tight fit.
i grabbed a little rubbermaid tub for cloning.
and on 1 more hdx tote for vegging, i will put about 8-10 holes.

I might've gone with white for reflectivity and not to absorb heat. Let me know how the dip works out though I was at AutoZone looking at a bunch of it and came really close to getting some. I've never really bothered wrapping my buckets with no I'll effect but it certainly doesn't hurt. I had some panda film cut out for the lids but it just looks janky

I was worried about algae buildup in the reservoir if did not paint it. Plasti dip should hold up just fine I believe

I totally understand why you are trying to get rid of hydroton. I tried doing same few different ways, currently I am doing it just the way you described, 5'' net pots with only neoprene disk at the top.
I cut of small portions of net pots so the holes would be bigger and also holes in the lids are a little bit smaller than 2'' so that net pots wouldn't fall in when the plants get heavy. This works perfectly for small plants but I am not sure how it will work when plants get bigger. I plan on growing each plant to cover around 2.3x2.3(70x70cm) under 180w led and I hope they yield 200g. So we will see how big of a plant can this system support.
Btw, how big did you plan your plants would get? I think that is the most important question here.
Following you have photos how my setup looks at the moment. It is great for now, but plants are just few weeks from seed and i hope it will work when they get bigger.

My plants will get no bigger than 4-5 ft, most less than 3’

The problem in my experience with a 2 inch cup
Is that the rim is too weak to support a heavy
Plant.
If your plants dont get super heavy then your ok
Or if you support the plant with a scrog so it wont sag under pressure you would be ok too.
But remember you have to be able to at least peak at the roots
These plants where around 4 foot tall
Cant remeber how big they where when they popped through as this was a few years ago
Also no hydroton
But almost evry 2 incher in this set up fell lol

That is why I make the hole a little bit smaller than the net pot as you can see in the 2nd picture.
What do you consider to heavy for the 2'' net pot?

I always size my holes correctly as im a finish tradesman
How big where they? I dont remember
How ever big it was when my plants fell through!
I moved up to 5 inch pots and i still have troubles with em getting big lol

Like i said in the first page they work fine for smaller plants they are ideal for sog grows in tubes
I just dont try to grow how i grow in them anymore. Look on page one theres a few pics there too.
Not saying your wrong just giving my experiences. Peace i will say it looks like your net cup has nicer rims then mine did

So I think that as soon as they develop buds after few weeks of flower they will get to heavy.
At the picture you uploaded do you have rockwool cubes in the net pot?
I think that for what OP and I wanted, which is to get rid of medium if I am not mistaking the best solution would be an empty 5'' or 3.5'' net pot.

i will be tying off my plants 6" or so above the tub. that will prevent them from falling into the rez. if i have to use 3 trellis's i like that idea better than dealing with hydroton.

Okay so 2 inch net pots and neoprene cloning collars start to finish is the way to go if you are running 5 gal dwc buckets or any dwc buckets for that matter. Why 86 hydroton out of the picture lordhooda? Because it cost a bunch of money and lets face it, if its costing money and you don't need it then you can consider the hydroton an un-needed expense. And yes you can do it, the roots believe it or not play a very important roll in the support of the plant not the pot size or medium its the roots that hold the plant up and as the stalk grows on the bottom it will only grow itself more securely into that 2inch hole as it gets bigger. I recently have taken out hydroton by switching to 2 inch net pots and cloning collars because I root in an aeroponic EZcloner and I put them directly into the container the will ve in until the end from there and they stay fixed into the little 2 inch hole in 5 gal bucket lids and the 27gal tough box lids as well I have 2 container types works great in both start to finish. Hope this helps

Yeah soon as you get ur clones going in ur cloning collars and they root transplant to their respective container because after about a week of veing rooted only way to free the plant is cut the top of the bucket off as u wont get either the plant or roots through a 2 inch hole after that. Just a heads up I did this and had to cut the basket too it sucked and slowed my clones down for a week before they came out of shock so transplant as soon as they are rooted

my plants never get bigger than about 12" before i flower, a lot of times 8".
i have 3 stages, 2 built, 1 in progress.

veg tub
and 4 tub (DWC), thinking about switching over to RDWC with an external reservoir for easier access. will probably have too.
in the past, using 5" net pots, i always just cut a small lid in my tub lid for dumps, refills, checks, etc... gonna try to eliminate that also
