Anyone running cobs at 100 watts each?

I was wondering how far they have to be from canopy at a 100 watts or even at 80 watts.

Also how did you space them. I have a 4by4 tent I'm thinking running 6 or 8 about a foot from the wall spaced evenly as I can. I don't have a ton of height so I need to figure out how tall I can go with the plants.

i would guess about 18 to 24 inches would be good coverage and plenty strong.i have some going at 75w each spaced 18 inches apart and about 12 inches over the canopy doing good like this. @puffenuff would be a good one to ask cause he runs some higher power cobs.

Awesome Maybe Ill just buy more cobs and run 8 at 80watts I only have about 6 feet height. Ill check out puffenuff

Must be thinking of @nevergoodenuf

Only experience I have with cobs is @ 50w each

Edit: Wow, I have a case of having too many LEDs. I do actually have a 185w cob that I forgot about. I have run it around 18" as supplemental light

if you look at any of my old par measurements they are all 12" dead under a cob. at 100W most cobs are around 8-9 PPFD/watt, so apart from sidelighting one 100W cob will give you ~800 PPFD at 12" below it, maybe 1200 with sidelighting from other cobs. id say with 100w, 12" safe 16" better

Cool thanks Im running them no lens Idk if that matters.

Mine are running @ 100 watts each in reflectors w/ an additional 26 watts of monos around each one. So, 126 watts each, about 10" apart & 25" center from each fixture. 24" gives me the best uniformity & #'s. 18"-24" is a good hieght.
Running at 100+ watts maintains pretty decent #'s w/ added distance. Not much of a % in drop.
Good for tall branches or plants.

Hi @frankslan

We space the COBs on our Redwood VS at 13" on center on a 24" x 42" frame. Growers report very even coverage @ 12-18" above canopy without reflectors. Removing reflectors has been shown to boost efficiency by 8-10% (nominal) and will also lower the heat at the LES, which is good for efficiency as well as longevity.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,
Dan

If you're trying to minimize canopy distance splitting the wattage to more cobs is better so 8 in two rows of four 75-80w each would be better than 6 in two rows of three 100w each. The cobs will be more efficient at 75w each and provide a corresponding increase in light over the 6 cob solution. Speaking in estimations, the cobs will also last longer.

I always got best results with a 4 cob lamp in a 2x4 area by spacing the cobs out and hanging them low. Stretch the cob spacing to around 11" and keep them low 10-12" above canopy for best PPFD and light distribution. In a 4x4 you would keep these particular designs about 24" from one another and 12" from the walls. If you shrink cob to cob distance closer to 8" the ideal height above canopy will go up until you reach a 24" grid that works best somewhere between 12 and 24", the split being 16-18" above canopy. Either way you loose photons to the wall but the stretch design is going to give you another 6" of canopy space.
