Anyone travel.

Hey,
So Ive lived in Kenya(beauty at its purest), Germany, USA, Costa Rica, England, China and Singapore. And have backpacked everywhere in between. Any other backpackers out there? I know there has to be a few.

If you haven't traveled and have the opportunity do it. Its an eye opening experience where you get to see incredible things. Its expensive but worth it. Its worth the pasta dinners.

Look at couchsurfing.org free places to stay across the world. Not sketchy at all. I'm a middle aged business man and I still do it for my one of month holiday and host guest often. The hosts give you a local perspective of the community which is fantastic.

Coolest experience, besides meeting my wife 30 years ago while biking across the UK, would have to be when I taught English in a Buddhist monnestary for 3 months right after college. Anyone else backpack?

No. I am thinking about joining an old friend though and doing a sailing trip. Across the pacific. We grew up making crummy sailboats out of scraps, college came and we joined the club. Etc.

I know we can do it. i just dunno if I SHOULD do it. I want to have the savings. Economy is bad wouldnt loose out on much money. DO you mind if I ask where you heading. I just got back from biking across Ireland about a month ago.

My Dad was in the military, we moved very frequently. More so than most military families. Fuck traveling.

I like to travel. Don't get to do it as much as I like though. Leaving on a 1 month excursion to China the end of October. Where at in China were you?

Love travelling, it's how life is meant to be... I'd say I cover well over 100,000 miles a year between driving and flying.

Rolf Potts wrote a great book on Vagabonding... should check it out, I plan to do a lot of backpacking down in South America after college, but first comes the Appalachian Trail, every mile of it.

My buddies and I have always talked about doing the Appalachian Trail but could never get that much time off at the same time. Done small parts of it. Love the dark coniferous parts of the forest.

Bejing.China is great. Its differant. Completely different culture. If your black or hispanic you will be stared at. Many have never seen blacks or hispanics its not out of racism. My son is EXTREMELY tall. He was just China. People would just surrond him to take photos with him. It was a hassle to go anywhere. I spent some time in Guandong. I really went everywhere. The first time I was there it was still VERY communist so it was a fraction of what it is today, still cheap.

I was everywhere in china. I love the country side. The cities are just as incredible. Learn from every single person you meet. It may be small. However when you add all of that knowledge up it gets to be a pretty big chunk of culture. Learn why they do what they do. I learned a lot about community from Kenya, organization in germany, etc. Do not take a moment for granted. Sorry to lecture. If you get the chance smoke a bowl(dirt cheap weed) then go to a doctor. I forgot what it is called but what they take a lot of tiny jars heat them and place them on your back. the heat sucks up your skin and muscle. So the hot hair is massaging your body in the jars. ITS AMAZING. I know it sounds weird but its great. It feels like the best massage ever. After four hours you can still feel it.

Ill have to check out that book. Im actually heading to South America for two months this winter. True said about its how life is meant to be. We are humans. We roam. Life is not suppose to be comfortable. Its suppose to be challenge your beliefs and push you to new limits. Life is not in-front of the TV. Nice plane btw.

Nice, sounds like you've done well for your self! I'm flying into Beijing spending acouple days there doing the whole tourist thing then flying to Guizhou where I'll spend the majority of my trip. Lots of caves and waterfalls I plan on exploring in Guizhou.

Traveling can be cheap if you know a few tricks. I know people from around the globe so an airplane ticket is about all I need. Food can be cheaper if you cook in hostels etc or at a friends. I enjoy this because then you can also share food with people from around the world.
