Thanks for the reply. I've seen many people bashing the "blurple" LEDs, but many backing up the performances. So, I was just really curious. What's a good LED for under $700?

No kidding! For $700 you could build a quality light that uses close to 1000 watts at the wall and very efficient. The Bridgelux gen2 strips are probably the most cost effective right now.

Oh they will grow, just like any other light will grow. But they're not any more efficient than HPS. and they are much more expensive. If you want something that will genuinely outperform HPS, look into COB's Quantum boards, Samsung strips, or Bridgelux strips. Those will lay down more photons per watt than any other light source out there.
Just take a look at the par maps found here
They claim a ridiculous 4.5 x 4.5 foot coverage, but at 18 inches down the par drops from ~750 in the center to below 300 at 30" x30" - thats not even 3x3 coverage.
