Anyone wanna talk soil? (could've worded that better I guess? :-) )

Hah, that title sounds like possibly the worst conversation starter ever but no harm being optimistic :-)

Newbie grower and need a really good ready mix soil that ideally would not need much extra feeding but can quite easily work out the extra nutes if I need to?

Planning on an auto water/feed system.

Problem is my mate at the grow site is a bit less than technically minded and I can't get over there too often so looking for good quality and low maintenance?

All advice appreciated

Pro Mix soil works real well right out of the bag. I usually add extra perlite and vermiculite but you don't have to. And you won't really need to feed them for a 4-5 week veg. Good stuff :)

square foot gardening soil? its 1/3 peat moss/coir 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 blend compost amd the blend compost is made up of forest wood byproducts compost, and green-cycled compost, animal manure based compost,poultry compost, and mushroom compost(mushroom compost blended with bat guano, worm castings, blood meal, bone meal,kelp meal cottonseed meal,and alfalfa meal)

make you own soil.. come on man. If you want to be good. you have to know what you are doing. And be able to bust out bud anywhere in the world any time.

getting any decent potting soil, Sand, and perlite
80% soil
10% sand.. sterlize sand...oven 300 degree for 30 minutes.
10% perlite

Ok, so I was looking for the lazy way of doing things but guess I'm just being ignorant.

These magnificent plants clearly deserve more respect than I am giving them currently and I want to grow lovely happy greens not just have a hack at it.

I bow to you guys greater knowledge, thanks for the advice

Off to try and source the ingredients here in the uk and go write lines on a blackboard Bart Simpson style! (must show more respect to the lovely green, must show more respect to the lovely green......) :-)

I just tried Pro-mix (bx), perlite, worm castings, and lime...My plant is growing ridiculously good...I actually only started it out in pro-mix & perlite until I transplanted to bigger pot......Only thing I will be giving it will be Jack's Classic (6 or 7 bucks), and I will give it some molasses during flowering...

I use promix worm castings and ancient forest Alaska humus. Works great for me however I do more then just add water. Just start with a simple 2 way or 3 part nute package. I started with fox farm and molasses and had great results. Filling in the gaps has certainly improved results but the basic 3 worked great. I if your friend can't follow a simple feeding schedule he probably can't manage your operation.

To all of you who kindly took the time to reply, I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you.
I took a trip to a local hydro shop and came away being steered towards the relative ease of a flood and drain hydro system and the benefit of telephone guidance. I know this will upset the organic growers.

I just wanted to say however that I very much apreciate you taking your time to steer me to the best soil mix and should I move to soil at any point I will know what to use.

Sorry to ignore your advice at this stage but as a newbie, the idea of having expert guidance on the end of the phone won me over. Maybe not the best way to go but seemed right?

I will keep you posted of progressif anyone is interested?
