You have to look at the problem from both sides. If the lights cannot be adjusted lower, then the plants must be adjusted higher. I simply added a makeshift booster seat for the plant. It worked fairly well. I need to get some better pre-made things to sit the plants on (like 20", 14". 8", 5", 2" Tupperware containers or whatever to sit the plants on).

that was the best thing i read on here today...if the lights cant be lowered then the plant must be raised.tue shit man. my 6 T8's will only lower to about 1 foot off the ground, so i use an old bong box!

hey all,
yes this applies to me too. my gro closet is upstairs.
man even now before summer its avg 90 temps i just added another fan
20 inch circular lesko brand,added to my 10 in oscillating(exhaust)
and my 18 in box fan the two big ones are for intake.
anyhow between the air and heat im watering way more than i feel comfortable with couple of plants are really showing guts and growin right along the others are smaller,and one has been drooping for 2 weeks now.
i did have 12 cfls the 26watt ones and one big cfl area light 10000 lumens
total of about 24000 but i started freaking when i was running 92 temp so i cut back to 6 26 watt cfls,lol i even had ghetto reflectors(3qt alum sauce tins) but temps went even higher.
oh well im just ramblin'

That plastic box is just... amazing. Very awesome idea. 
I think first grows are difficult no matter where you are, or what style of growing you are doing.
Memaw and I had our number of obstacles to overcome, just as every first-time grower does, I'm sure.
Our set up is currently in the closet -- And I feel you guys on the light/noise/smell issues. We're in a townhouse, so theirs six houses stuck in a row. And we have a cop next door.
So we have a lot of worries. But the cop hasn't said anything so far so that's good!
I would seriously stick to something like the box posted above, or as someone else suggested dresser/cabinet/something.
A buddy of mine just got an armoire that he's going to move his grown into, I think he said it was like 4 foot tall and 3 foot wide. Granted, he only has two plants, so it sounds like it'll be okay for his grow. He says he currently has them in one of those premade grow boxes, I think he said.
Something like that would help muffle the noise a little bit, I would think... Then again I guess I've gotten kind o fused to the roar of our fans.
I don't know what to tell you about the maintenance other than what people have already suggested. Changing locks, etc.
I still vote for that box idea.

i've been looking into starting something here in my apt closet. i was really worried about odor and space but with jethro's (and the one in that icmag link) setup i'm really excited that it'll work (also i'm going for a cinderella99 x apollo strain that's suppose to be really low odor and easy to grow)!
one question: it seems like most of you guys only do one setup. i was planning/wanting to have two - one that keeps the mothers in veg, and another for flowering clones. (i think the icmag guy does this too). do you guys only have one or... can you clone safely & easily clone from your plants before you harvest?

and here is some help for you folks that the local ponics guy helped me out with
I have a closet grow room 3x3x9 the temp would always hit in the 90 degrees mark , I didnt want to buy an AC its way to much bank Esp. if the damn thang ran at 1200 watts (im thinking) and I have no exhaust for the thing.
I told the local ponics guy about my problem and he told me to tell him about the room after telling him about the light fixture on the ceiling.... he told me to take it off and there was my new vent but not for the ac more for the air scrubber to help the smell go away I had an exhaust whole about 3-4 inches wide . heat went down
Also picked up a swamp cooler and a co2 regulator and tank to make sure on certain days the heat wont cause stress to the babies hopes this helps everyone
.. I also am trying to get rid of spider fucking mites shit sucks .

For odor check out the ona/fan/bucket setup, i posted a lil thread about, some others here did too...
Yeah i was actually thinking about have a mother or 2, definitely lst'd, inside of a server case. One cfl, prob. 85 watt. should allow at least 6 clones every 7 weeks (Roseman's timetable for stealth hydro sea of green)
N/e ways here are pics of my grow cab ($50 for cabinet at home depot) + stealth hydro setup...26 days old, and they even spent their first week in soil/bad light conditions b4 i transferred them over
Aquarium in last pic was bought to cover up noise and since its cheap and from wal-mart the ballast for the little fluorescent is LOUD. Mix that with ceiling fan and we got enough white noise to cover up a couple puny fans.
temps with 2x70w hps cooltube at 81.5, which is just as hot as my 2x85w 6500k cfls! (lst helped my temp's greatly, maybe better air circulation)
Look at the cooltube pic to see how it's hooked up. Any questions just ask

If you want, simply take a garbage can and build a small grow-box out of it. Then, keep a mother plant inside it at constant veg. Every couple weeks, make a couple cuttings and move them into your a small clone box you have made (plastic dome with about 50w+ of lighting for about a dozen clones).
Then, you have your third box - the main grow box.
Personally, if I had to do everything again, I would NOT build my box the exact way I did.
You don't know how troublesome things are until you have to reach to the bottom of your bins - from over the top. I use an "adjustment tool" (a stick or curtain rod) to move the box/garbage can/whatever that the plants are sitting on to boost them up, while I use my hand to steady the plants from falling over.
I have learned from my mistakes; Front access is essential.
Then, you have your third box - the main grow box.

That would be a huge pain in anyone's ass. I CAN serpate the bins (just did a couple days ago for a good clean out), but then I have to disconnect the wiring, lights, and make sure the plants don't get damaged. Not worth the hassle.

I was going through some of my old threads...updating where needed.
Here's an update of my Apt. grow. I have a 6 plant bubbler with 4 plants in it. 2 plants are 3.5 weeks and another 2 are only 2 weeks. All seeds were from a good bagseed smoke. Still havent had any smoke that was as good as that since that time. So I used those seeds to start with.
I also have 2 potted plants that I started at the end of April. Both potted plants are standing about 27" from top of soil to the top of plant.
Im using 1 400w HPS light with 3 Walmart bought fans. Avg. temp is 79f avg. humidity is about 45-50%.
Nutes used is all FoxFarm. GrowBig, Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom. They hydro has been going with soil GrowBig. I just got the hydro kind but havent changed my res yet. But the plants are doing fine in the hydro using soil nutes.
All the plants are ready for flower except the two that are only 2 weeks old. The soil plants are begining to preflower. I think they are both female....at least thats the way they look now.
I'll be flowering in about a week or two...when the smallest plants get a couple more nodes on them. Included pics to help with the visuals.
Already have 2nd grow in mind. As soon as I get these done of course. A super cool grower here blessed me with some seeds. White Widow of his own selective breeding. The pics of the mom the seeds came from are crazy! Cant wait to get started in that. He also sent me some other seeds...White Widow x Shiva. I'll have my hands full the rest of the year.
Looking for a mom off this grow, the future WW grow and the WWxShiva. That would be ideal....wish me luck.

Thanx, Mid...Im just biding my time right now....Im about to say f*#k it and start flowering now. I just dont wanna waste 2 plants. But...I only have so much headroom in my closet so I cant veg forever.
And now that I have quality seeds...Im anxious to get this grow done and start with the good stuff. Seriously...Im about to go for it. Just waiting on my timer to arrive from the dro shop. Then...its 12/12 time...no matter how far along the last 2 plants are.
