Thanks for all the wisdom I've learned lurking here on RIU!! I have a question that I will +rep anyone who helps.

Which is a better bet in your experiences? Any major issues of which I should be aware? Any related or unrelated wise tips for a novice Cherokee heirloom tomato rookie purple thumb?

Apollo has the warranty, should I just go with them?

Here are the links of the ones I am looking at... Apollo:

I just signed for my Apollo 400 watt kit I bought off amazon.
I can't give you any long term use advise but the kit looks great.
I did some research on both ipower and Apollo, The reason why I went with Apollo is for the 3 year ballast & 1 year bulb warranty.
The only diffrence I found was one is black one is purple. If you ask me I would say they are exactly the same inside but different housing.

i scored a new 1k I-power off feebay a couple months ago. so far running 12/12 no issues, been running about 6 weeks or so. switchable MH/HPS magnetic ballast. runs super hot tho, i have a small pc fan blowin into it. running at 110V. a 220 upgrade with a lighting controller is planned sooner than later.

It was a package deal air cooled hood, timer, hangers, ballast n bulb. good deal over all. the hood is a tad on the small side something like 19x15 inches. paid 250 for the whole thing. after that the price went up to 299.

I see he dropped his price back down...

Okay I feel foolish. How do you +rep someone here on RIU?
So far so good with the Apollo package.

Ballast doesn't even get warm.
Still put it on a piece of slate just in case.

Heads up! My 400 watt in a 3x3x5 tent setup gets super hot tho.
Make sure you plan to buy fans & a some sort of exhaust. Anything to help with the heat.
I was able to pick up a Fantech fg6 today. Hopefully this helps with the heat issue.

Ipower, all the way got the 600w kit for 160 nice as hell. Ballast doesnt get to hot and is pretty quite. Bulbs are nice except my mh had a crack in it and they shipped one out that day. Got it two days later. As for apollo I ordered a aircooled hood from them. And the cermiac cover for the socket was broken as with a few clips. Took 3 days yo get in contact and another 3 to ship the part sad thing is is all they did was send the shipping info not even the package yet. A week n half later and still the same thing. Go with ipower.

i got the 400w apollo package and it works great. good warranty as others said too. id get a cool tube or air cooled hood though. they offer those packages with different hoods just look for em it will be like 20 bucks more and youll have a way better handle on your ventilation ... just my opinion, i dont know what your setup is like

Theres a hood at the local shop with a 6" perfect for my ehaust fan already its 22 3/4" by 21 1/2" I believe and 11 1/2" deep for $120. Plus it has removable glass lens. I'm between that ipower kit and a lumatek dimmable digi, though I'd never use dim (I'm only putting one light in.) I want a digilux 600 watt MH. They have an enhanced spectrum thats got a good mix of blues and reds plus some UV light. I plan on adding seom UV CFLs and a few of the 2700K 55 watters to light up any dark spots on the sides and corners and help with a little frost.

Has anyone had a chance to see some par tests on their ipower bulbs? Or actual consumption? Just curious, I saw a video on a sun systems with a digi and a sun systems magnetic and the mag had just slightly lower par and lux, but, theres a 400 watt CMH out there that has higher par and better UV. I've seen some nice grows with it, not full journals, but pics with the lights on and plants at harvest, it was damn frosty.
