Looking through HVAC manuals, it's very clear that the preferred arrangement is to push air through cooling cores and pull it through heating cores for maximum heat transfer.
This^. Essentially what I deleted from my long windedness post a page or two back. That's what I think, as well.
I dont know if you missed my picture or what but i have my fan pulling air through the carbon filter, pushing it through the hood, and out the tent. Air goes -> carbon filter -> fan -> hood -> out of tent. That is the evidence. There is ducting where the arrows are. A 6'' fan at 50% power keeps the hood cool to the touch. I dont know why your results would be so different. Even running full tilt most inline fans only pull a hundred watts, even if that was all converted to heat (which it is not) that still should have virtually no affect on a hood with a 1000w bulb in it.

Removes heat from the tent very well. I did buy a taller tent and will be hanging it about a foot higher than it was for the last grow which keeping the plants the same height will make a major difference in evenly spreading the light. Summer was hard to keep temps down, winter should be no problem. I just did a summer grow for fun ended up running 750w most the time with canopy temps staying 82 or lower. Winter I should be able to run 1000-1100w and keep the temps under 80 no problem. I think that fixture does exactly what it is supposed to. Lets the bulb get hot as hell like it needs to and still removes excess heat very well at the same time. Fixture is basically cool to the touch. About 90 degrees directly above the bulb.
Awesome, yeah I got kicked in the ass with heat for about 10 days, fluffed a couple plants unfortunately. I run a de in a open wing and that 600, was tough to keep it under 85 for a solid week. I’m sealing the room up now and putting some ac in it so I hope I never do that again. There wasn’t much to pick from for vented DE hoods, might look into one for next summer. Maybe I will go led for the summer, who knows, I still love my hps buds. What kind of bulb are you running? I was looking at the ushio hi lux grow, it comes out on top in a couple reviews, I thought the Phillips masterpower was “the” bulb. I’m using a budget bulb right now in the de.
Sunsystem is the only company that makes an air cooled DE hood that actually works right. I got mine used for like 100$. Check craigslist and shit. Ive been running ushio HPS for flower. I have 600 and 1000w MH bulbs from a couple other brands for the "tent filling" stage of veg. I bought a Philips HPS for my next grow, the Ushio will now be a backup. DE is where its at. The light they throw off is incredible.
Shit that’s a good deal, yeah I just did my first run with a DE, that 1k hps is intense, I was tired of it after 3 months. Alright I think I will grab the Phillips, gut says Phillips. And as if the 1k wasn’t enough, there’s me trying to hang over my canopy to add one of my old 600 eye super hps, that things a gem too. 600’s can throw down too. I left my de at my max 9 feet and said fuck it, I might leave it there start to finish this time. Shit I had that thing at 24” thinking se, scratching my head looking, they don’t look right.. lmao.
Yeah they like to be up high. Intense bulbs. The packaging for Philips sucks... had several broken ones in a row from amazon. Finally ordered elsewhere and it was good. Nice thing about philips is its actually rated to run at 1150w. No other bulb is or puts out specs at that wattage.
Ok good to know, I will grab from a hydro shop and skip amazon, I have 1100 on my ballast, that’s all she’s got man! But I love the internal timer and remote, bees knees.
Ive got the same solistek ballasts. They are good, the remotes kill the batteries way to fast though. I wish you could just set them directly on the ballast without a remote.
I went threw 6 triples with leaving the display on in 3 months. How’s that compare?

You can use whatever brand pH buffer you like. I use advanced because it's like 10x more concentrated but I keep GH buffers around for when I am working with smaller batches.
