My friend hurt his hand really bad and the surgery went worse. Its highly unlikely he will be able to work again. My questions is does SS disability office take into considerations on his eligibility based on the money he has in the bank or investments at all?

Yeah probably, I know ppl on SS disability that stopped getting money once their spouse started getting more money, or they started getting less, ect. Another friend I know, his wife's SSDI was either reduced or stopped (I forgot which) because they had too much equity in vehicles, they went my the book values from like 3 vehicles they owned or something packed like that..

No. They automatically deny. If he has one hand they will say he can be a garage attendant or stadium usher. Sorry.

I have heard that it can get approved the first time if the attorney does his work right.
However he needs to hire an attorney so there may be cost.

Chances are he will get denied his 1st try. My friend lost his arm at the shoulder socket, over 20 years ago, and took him 3 tries to get his approved. But it was only AFTER he had hired an attorney that they gave him his disability. Back then they took everything into consideration, savings, checking, automobiles, 401k, house. Things may have changed. He does "side" work just to make a decent living, because he can't have a "job" and still draw disability. Nobody I know can live off of $750 a month, with a mortgage, insurance, food, kids, it's really hard to make life work on the measly amount they want to give him. I understand something is better than nothing though.

My buddy messed up his hand on his property.. We are in NY, are some states easier to get disability than others?

I got mine because of my heart condition and ptsd and a few other problems. Of course SS turned me down the first time. Got an attorney took two years to get to court (you do get all the back pay owed in a lump sum). The Judge reviewed my case and just shakes his head. "This man has 6 different qualifying conditions and he has to hire legal counsel to get his earned social security"? Approved.

One thing is that if you have a dependent child you get an additional check for them until they are 18 or still in school equal to 50% of your check.

Ok I know Ill prolly get some shit for this but here goes...

First let me start by stating the obvious.

Social Security is designed to keep people in poverty. They give you just barely enough to live on...then restrict you from earning any more. Lol

Then there's the fact that the OPs "friend" is seeking full disability for a hand injury. Come on man. There is a girl, works in my office. No arms. She types with her toes. (True story.)

Our society is so comfortable with the hand out these days. When will we learn there is no such thing as a hand out? Their free monthly stipend has got you stuck like a bug in amber. (Sorry.)

There are lots of jobs to be done with one hand.

We all have to pull our weight... If everybody with a disability stops working...no work would get done. We are all gifted and flawed in some way. Its up to us to find out these things about ourselves and use our gifts to our advantage. Why do we concentrate on the flaws? Lol

Sorry if I offend...

Not that I'm aware of since It all has to go thru Social Security, and don't think that one state would be easier than another. Just prepare him to not get it the 1st try, like I said, my friend lost his arm at the shoulder socket, and took him 3 tries to get it, and it took a couple years. It's not an easy road, and it's probably going to take him quite a while to get it. Lawyers for the SS game are like injury lawyers, they take like 30 percent chunk of the "lump sum" back pay, which is usually a 2 to 3 year process, the longer it goes, the more money they make.

My wife hired a Lawyer and got hers.

She is still allowed to make so much. She works for the Federal Government.

We was getting a Check for our Son but had to pay it back.

My Student Loan had been paid off for years. They was saying I owed it and had a bunch added to it. I told them it was paid but I couldn't find the Paperwork on it.

They was taking out of my check. I went found what Paperwork I could. They give me all the money back.

Let's put it this way you can't argue with them.

I'm getting regular Social Security and a Pension.

What is funny kind of my wife was making me Edibles. Found you can absorb THC in through the skin.

She had to have Blood Work for her yearly physical. Showed she had THC in her blood. So she better be wearing gloves.
Since when do routine physicals test for THC? Cannabinoids do not enter the bloodstream through the skin — at least not without some transdermal patch.

Since she turned 65 they have insisted on her having a physical.

Me I have to do a Drug Test to make sure I'm taking my Drugs.
Well she can check it on the computer and she said it showed THC and all she had done was make my Edibles.

Crazy she don't touch anything including Alcohol but being around her you would think different.

1. Doctors will not test for THC in routine blood or urine tests unless specifically asked.
2. You will not test positive for THC by touching cannabis (seems to be a common theme around here now). So, she's dipping into your edibles if in fact a drug panel was requested for the tests which makes no sense.

Why waste my time with you. I know my wife and I know the results of her Blood work.

It is no skin off your back side.

There was a study done can THC be absorbed by just handling Marijuana.

It found it could and even show up in hair follicles.

And can show as positive for weeks later.

I just found this by checking the Internet. All they did was roll 8 joints a day, didn't smoke them.
