Most commercial grows are focused on the bottom line. Look at the threads on here, so many people have problems trying to get through a 10 week strain, to run something 20 weeks is a different game.
Are Auto's worth it these days.

To be fair it’s a gamble running a strain for half a year if it’s not what you personally like.
But I think the old saying ‘good things come to those who wait’
Longest I ran a strain was Kali mist, 14 weeks. Was amazing smoke! Girls love that one
I understand., we all understand that Commercial standard will be a lot different than the standards of the most closely held crosses.
To me, it’s obvious that commercial grade cannabis is on the decline. The arguments of plants that produce everything from high thc, psychosis, hurting the kids, low cb.. whatever. Whatever it takes to keep commercial cannabis profitable. Even if that means abandoning less profitable areas, and search for more lucrative areas to do business. The trend is happening right before our eyes.
It’s gonna be a different ballgame after corporate money leaves.. we can dream.

Are autos worth it? It depends on what you're looking for. I grow for variety, right now I have 8 autos packed into a 2x4 tent. With my setup and not-so-great growing ability, I'll probably get about 2oz per plant which adds up to a pound from the tent, that works for me. There will be 8 different strains to sample, start to finish in around 90 days. My wife who smokes most of what I grow has been smoking for the last 40 years, she has quite a high tolerance and she loves the autos I grow.
That's worth it for me. Maybe it is for you, maybe not. There is no "one size fits all", it depends on your particular needs and expectations. Autos can take some time to master, I find them to be less forgiving of mistakes than the photos I grew for years before I switched over. Once you get a handle on them, then they can become simple. Stick with the top breeders and there are a LOT of really good quality strains to choose from.

I grow autos for variety! Yes they are more temperamental and harder to start but if done right then you are on the track. Usually have two of each in a tent. I can fit 6 in 5gal SIPs in a 4x4 but gets tight. I did 8 once. I would again but only 3 gal pots. I have 2 strains right now in a large pot. 30+gal. Plastic 55 gal drum cut in almost half. Just starting to flower. Love them both. Both have their merits and both have pitfalls. Both are cannabis so I say Grow em All!

For my first indoor grow the speed of autos was a very meaningful appeal. I wanted to get some return on my investment in new equipment, and the sooner the better. My first outdoor grow last summer ran @ six months and did not return as much as I had hoped (learned a lot and psyched to try again!). I figured I had about three months worth of decent to really good weed from that two plant harvest, and it carried me through to the auto harvest from the first indoor grow, two plants, one really nice and productive, and the other less so, but another three months or so of good smoke…so I’m waiting for my next auto harvest, this time three plants. My real goal is to have enough stash to feel free to experiment, but I’m also committed to not purchasing anymore, and autos simply keep the buzz going for now. I also like the variety that’s out there, but that’s true of both variety and I’m excited to try another photo grow also. Just need a six month stash before I dive in. Or alternatively, waiting for the season to switch, and as was recommended to me by someone here, run the autos outdoors (we have a short and weather challenged window here in New England, so the autos make sense as an outdoor crop too), and get some photos going inside. But autos help assure keeping me in a stash for now, which is a top priority. And I find it to be nice grass too.

Same. Committed to not paying for weed that is substandard in comparison to what I harvest. Also trying to keep a head stash full. The timing is what I’ve had problems with. But, if you are doing 3… start one. Then 3 wks later, start another, then another 3 wks start another. By the time you harvest one you have enough room for another. Perpetual harvest every 3 wks.

Thanks man, I have read and soaked up page after page you post. You make the soil set up flawless. I have not run autos with any true interest until I started reading your auto's posts. Tons of photo runs but always shy on autos due to the fact if you don't catch problems early it costs you in the end but, your help posts make it sofaking smooth. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge man. Much appreciated.

Ya know the Twenty20 Cosmo was free from North Atlantic Seed Company when I bought the Mephistos. Turns out it looks really good, tallest plant in the tent with good structure. I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again for sharing that knowledge.
