Are mono panels going away?...or not?

This thread is funny...
What cobs are is every back yard hacker grow light wanna be builders dream come true.
A lot of light in a small package that any trained monkey can mount to a heat sink following what a few on this site have laid the groundwork for.
They are not and I believe will not replace a mono system that is "engineered" by a true lighting company with the proper resources for design and manufacture.

Your all till trying to clobber the performance of the AT600, has it really happened yet?

there is a lot similarity between the development of cobs and single diodes to the development of digital electronics in general. Tubes to transistors, micro circuitry, smaller chips, etc. The advances in cobs and surface mount technology are all hitting 200 lm/watt, easily surpassing single large diodes as far as I know.

and oh btw trying to classify large diode phosphor leds as being a MONO led is bullshit.
a mono is a mono is a mono. Straight mono panels are going away. monos are good to supplement, but the dollars for research that will lead to significant gains are being pushed towards white light, and improving their efficiency. Dictated by market needs in which the Ag industry is not a major player.

Oh the AT600. I'd use one, but I like my cobs more.

at600 uses white phosphor cool white. its not a mono only panel. actually I believe its has been surpassed by gg himself

Prove it, especially with the white single diodes. Cobs have like, a bunch of leds, all running at a few milliamps. Like, a bunch. It's hard to compete with that.

I need to try to take a picture. Hey @BOBBY_G do you have welding glasses? I bet those would be great.
Check the cree XPG-3 datasheet. Up to 190 LPW at 1W and the XML2 at 170LPW at 2W.
You will need alot of them and if you can get bulk for good prices they are just as efficient. COBS are superior due to price and heat distribution but singles are still very usable.

COBs have the edge right now and they will probably keep it,I'm running mine at 800 ma which is just over 200 lpw, wonder how much of a bump the next gen will have.

5-10% per year eff. bump per usual with a 5-10% annual cost reduction

good time to be a cobber

Very well stated.

....or that Sun Cloak, too!!!!! :)
Glad you mentioned the SunCloak. Many overlooked this light.
I posted data sheets on it I believe in my thread if anyone's Interested. Pretty cool growing with it. I like my SunCloak.

Monos mixed with white COBs is the best we're gonna get at the moment I believe. Especially if you're trying to get the most out of your plants.
Before someone says prove it. Why do you not take the R+D done all these years seriously? And how come considering the combination of the 2 doesn't makes sense to you?
Growing with HPS, I can tell you that it's a fact that the Daylight Blue Hotrilux bulb does create higher potency & does turn my bud purple & bring out all kinds of colors. I'm no link poster so sorry I can't go there but it HAS been proven over n over that full spectrum growing does allow for better bud & more of it.
Don't forget why you all fell in love with COBs to begin with. Full spectrum over Burple.
So, until the COBs can give you a full spectrum, I'd say monos aren't going anywhere. Matter of fact, more companies using COBs will probobly start using monos to keep up after their done being so stubborn.
