Are my lights okay were there at?

I use .4, 400 Watt hps bulbs for my plant's they been flowering for shit 18 week's now and its just been to long, they got good buds on them but there just not producing tricmoes and wont ripen for harvesting. My plant are tall about 5 ft there about a half foot beside my lights an what i mean by that is that the lights are as high as they can go and my plants are growing past the bottom of the light bulb about 6" So the lights facing the side of the top of the plant and a little on the top. I have a feeling my lights are not supposed to be like. Ive heard talk that the light should always be at the top of the plant an the plant's top should never excised. The bottom of the bulb. Anyone wont to shine some light on this. ? Right now by chart my plant's are receiving 200 thousand lumes and I guess are two close. Idk maybe genetics or might be me

pictures would help us a lot giving you advice, but how old are your bulb`s ? a new HID bulb have about 4-5 good grows in em (roughly a year)

here is a pictures of my 600W at around 1ft distance where it put out around 7-8K Lumens, for flowering +5K is optimal

400's don't have that much penetrating power. If your plants are 5 feet tall, there is no way the light is reaching down through the plant enough for it to be able to efficiently use all the lumens.

That sucks they won't ripen up. There isn't really anything wrong with a plant growing passed a light; but like stated above, pictures would help. Are the bulbs in hoods? The plants tops can keep growing out beside the light as long as they aren't growing into the light. If you have any way of bending them or something I would do that. I would only start cutting the tops if its the last resort possible.

What kind of strain are you growing? Must be a full blooded sativa for that amount of flowering. They might have just passed their peak. What do you mean they won't "ripen", like hairs and tricomes changing colors?

There hardly isn't any tricomes and the hair's are still white with buds just getting bigger and bigger, but even with that happening I see very little production of tricomes every time I water.. the pics when they are in night time hrs. So I could take a pic with hps off.

i just chopped a similar girl that was of unknown strain at day 112 and it cud have went longer, was messing my timing up. had to be sativa (my 1st). i was able to get trych readings and was all cloudy at least. it kept producing new growth, all i grow is indica so it was different
