are my plants receiving to much light?

Just bought a hps 600w Apollo setup and have it at 75% power because it's a dimmable ballast. My 3 plants were already 1 month into flowering (under about 150w total) ever since I switched them my exodus cheese has been I would say burning due to the light be so close but I'm not sure because my other 2 plants seem to be loving it. My blueberry especially. Jack33 seems to be flowering slowly but I'm not sure if its just the strain. The light bulb ranges between 8-16 inches away from the top colla and lower branches. ( obviously the main collas are closer to the light) gonna try to throw in aurebou picture to help. But is there such thing as to much light?

not sure about too much light but your lights can be too close which causes the plant to have very short growth. you want lights up enough to promote upward growth. this is kind of a trial and error sort of thing. 600 watts at 75% is like 400 watts. a little more actually... 6 x 75 = 450 watts. I'd say stick with about 15-18 inches and see how they do. the better choice might be to avoid using a reflector and just go bare bulb and hang the bulb along side the plants to get them to bush outward instead of up, if vertical space is small.

There no such thing as too much light as its the heat the light gives off that does the damage

There will be a point where more light don't give you more bud and it just uses lots of electria and causes more heat in the room
using your light in the best way you can to get the most out of it, a good canopy shape is the best way to pull a good yeild from your light

sorry fellow
I disagree about "you want lights up enough to promote upward growth"
keeping the plants as short as possible keeps the stems thick and strong and the nodes spacing close

The closer the node spacing and the thicker the stem is, the thicker the cola's will be and the heighter the yield will be

I wait till I see the edge of a single leaf turn up( top of the plant) and I know its time to lift the light a few inches

damn 15-18 inches. Lol one of the collas that has damage is like 8 inches from the bulb. Problem is there are others that are just as close with no damage. But yeah I'll try to raise the light up like like inches?

I agree, and I like short bushy plants (:

Yep to much light. Pm me and I'll give you my shipping addy so I can dispose of that 600watt for you.

All joking aside can you hold your hand on top of the closest plant?

yes but it's kinda warm I just don't know what's too much. It doesn't burn my hand. When I have it at 100% it does.

back of the hand below the light level with top of the plants ( 1 min) is a good test, if its too hot for your hand its too hot for the plants

if you got a thermstostak hang it from the hood and see what the temp is
keep lowering the thermstostak till its round the low 30's and you know this is the right temps for the plants

6-8" below that should be 25-28c

jacksthc, yeah I know that, but it's possible for a light to be too close in my opinion. I've seen quite a few growers that have lights very close and wonder why the plants don't seem to grow upward at all. preventing this kind of thing is what I meant. besides, in the rest of the post I wrote hanging bare bulbs alongside plants to promote bushy growth rather than upward, which may serve an indoor grower well. I don't think 15 inch distance is too much anyway. Just my opinion. In the end, everyone figures out what works for them.

Since you upgraded your light and increased output by like 300%, you said you were at 150 watts, now you're at 450. If thats correct the plants having troubles may just need more food. More light means more work means more food consumption. They might be starting to cannibalize themselves do to lack of nutrients. Can't really tell without pictures... Or they could be too close?

You need light, food and water. You now have more light so as dirtymccurdy pointed out you may now need more food.
