Are the more expensive seeds worth it?

Selfed seeds are just the same as normal seeds. Aint no difference in any seed as far as outcome.
They can throw intersex trait if stressed and topped to much. Of u must grow them indoors leave em natural with just LST i learned the hard way 3-4. And I sat back and said why are some herm and other not? Well all the one that hermed i topped and stressed out to much and didn’t give them a proper recovery time before flipping to flower. Whrere I never ever had any issue outdoors with the S1 bagseed. My best plant effects wise was a Motorbreath 15 bag seed from dispo I grab a 1/8 from a new company that was cheaper then rest and it cause they are greenhouse grown not In a facility so they def use light dep or added light for a few hour to keep fro. Flipping to early it was a big fat tiger striped bean. I grew out My lil 2x2 spare tent let her veg out 60 days in 10 gallon pots of organic soil and I only topped dressed 2 x the whole grow 1 x after transplanting In 10 gallon and 1 time before the flower flip. The rest of grow was LABs and molasses only foliar spray and soil drench and she was so so dank that IMHO I was very upset I did take a few cuts air try to reveg her. There was a time 10 years ago where I would dare grow a bagseed now if the flower impresses me and I find a seed or 2 I save em and grow em. Some do herm but the one that did I always did toppings and heavy training n the one that don’t I let grow naturally

The old fems yes but more modern well made fems made from a stable parent are no more likely to herm than a stable regular female is imo tis only if you don't stress test and progeny test first before using said parent for fem work that your gonna find out and not so many do this due to demand/takes time space and effort and the thing is when you S1 something the recessive traits become dominant in the progeny so if the recessive herm traits in there you will see it in the s1s you make alternatively if it isn't you won't see it it had to be in there to begin with to be a problem

People like Mean Gene at Freeborn Selections stress test plants and take years to assess new strains before releasing them. And it shows! I will gladly pay a little more so that after I spent 4 or 5 months growing something, I end up with quality!

Yeah if they put the work in you will notice I agree within reason to pay a lil more but I do think some people rip the piss a bit when it comes to pricing but I agree it should be down to how much work you put in so you do a bit more charging a lil more is justified or if it's fem work and something yields few viable seeds/don't reverse easily and is more stable then I can understand it costing a bit more

Even with expensive seeds, it can be hit/miss. It amazes me how much total bunk there is out there! My God! I see something that says, "Northern Lights #2"....I bite....I grow it....It sucks. I see something else that says "Chocolate Thai"....I grow it...It sucks...I see another variety that says "Triangle Kush"....I take a chance on it....It turns out great! I spend almost $300 on a pack of Chemdozer. I grew it. It looked stunningly beautiful, produced rock-hard buds....and, in all honestly, was pretty good but not $300 a pack great.

The vendors will advertise any way they want. They'll say that a low yielding plant is a high yielding plant. They will say that a no-terp-having strain is the stinkiest stuff on Earth. If you get critical, then they say it's the grower's fault. Most of the time, whatever the variety, there will be countless phenotypes because so little of the new stuff has been worked long enough to be stable. There isn't enough consistency. Typically, a well-worked strain will cost more because it takes time to do the work and selecting. But, you have to want the same qualities that they are working for. In some cases, it's all about yield. In other cases, it's about searching for a flavor, regardless of yield.

I'm old so I was there when the real things were around. I know what to to look for and what to expect. But there are a couple generations who have no experience with any of it. Any seed that they pop can be called anything and described in any way. You almost have to waste a bunch of money and time before you're ever really going to know.

Its more practical to buy clones, if potency is what your after. Seeds can fail to sprout. There will always be genetic variation, so its not guaranteed that you will end up with an incredible plant from seed.

If you purchase a clone from a trusted credible source, you can bet that someone has already done the hard work of finding an "elite" plant for you.

Exactly why I buy seeds according to breeder and not strain name, and you have to do your homework and vet breeders! One of the things that my favorite breeders do is put in years of work on a strain and honestly tell you what kinds of variations can occur in aroma, morphology and GENERAL flowering windows. THe best breeders tend to understate the quality of their work, as I believe Crickets and Cicadas does.

Well I 1/2 way agree with that. I do know from a few years of reversing female cuts of my mother clone. I noticed if I reversed my GG4 and put in tent with 3 cuts of different varieties. I have noticed that the progeny always have more trait structure and terps of the pollen donor. So I did an experiment where I reversed a Platinum cookie cut I have and let that dust up GG4 a Garlic cookie and my favorite Aloha White widow cut. And same results the seeds I popped all looked, grew and smelled more like the GSC than anything else. So with that said I’ve found 2-3 seeds from a GG4 x GMO I grew outdoors I topped her 1 x on the 9 th node as left all branches below alone and it had amazing structure and was wider than it. Was tall some of the best flower I ever smoked and by far my best outdoor run ever. Last spring I popped those 3 seeds and all 3 were amazing plants but 1 was so special I took a bunch of cuts and rooted em inside and grew them this winter indoors and wow I stepped I shit with this one. It check off all boxes. They were so dank and loud they would scream fuck u at the cops whe they drive by my house

This is why I started trying out different famous clones too. People still need to do their homework, because not all famous clones are potent (some are more of a terp thing I guess) but the ones that are known for their potency... yeah, it's tough to find comparable potency in seed hunts. You gotta grow A LOT of plants. My personal numbers... I found ONE plant in about 1000 that I've grown (different varieties over the years) that I'd say was equal with the potent clones I keep.

Well the chem D in gmo will throw nanners but there sterile so if it's fertile it has to be from the GG side of things and or the cookies in there too that's known to pass on this trait and also the annoying trait of ovules as well those tiny quarter sized aborted seeds you find sometimes in certain types of bud definitely not what you want

The problem I have with clones is that, even if I find a great one, it's only going to be so long before I get sick of it. After that, I end up right back at square one again. Tastes change after awhile. I prefer growing from seed because there is a chance that I will get something great AND different, at the same time. Plus, in all honesty, I am becoming more addicted to growing than I am smoking. It's more challenging growing from seed and I like the challenge. I pretty much have given up on expecting much from modern hybridization. It's just too complex, now....too many variables that can appear. I try to stick to varieties that have a shorter "family tree" so-to-speak. But even then, I still have to rely on the integrity of the people who make the seeds. Some seed breeders have zero integrity....like Hazeman. I think he must just collect wild hemp seeds and works those. It pisses me off that I can do everything right, as far as growing technique goes, but, in the end, it's all about the genetics. I started out growing great weed with horrible technique. Now, I grow shitty weed with great technique. I wish I knew what I was doing back when the genetics were incredibly good.

Plus your taking risks the amount of viroids and nastys out there that come along for the ride sure it's not impossible with seeds just alot more unlikely I like the variety and surprises you get with seeds too

People don't seem to be taking hop latent viroid seriously, I personally wouldn't buy a clone online unless it was from tissue culture. Plus I like the variety of seeds as well!

I think people take it seriously. Over the past year, guys like cloney and a couple other smaller ones stopped selling clones because of it. The community kinda self-polices it. It's real simple to track down who's garden it came from when you're selling to a lot of people. They become the common denominator real quick.

I think all the ones mentioned here frequently on RIU are safe, and would have to shutdown ops if they came back hot. Strainly obviously is a place to avoid. Just like seeds, you gotta do your research.
