Are there better lights then HPS for growing?

Things didn't go well for me every time I tried something else, even for germinating seeds I found CFL a cock-up of note, didn't realise they're no help far as dry heat goes...

I am however considering supplementing my HPS lamps with some strong CFL's in the 'cold' spots of my canopy. I think they'll work a treat.

BUT that being said, I've seen some amazing work done with CFL and LED. I wouldn't write them off, if I had less height to play with they'd be a great option for me, also in summer here it gets very hot so I will be investing in an LED rig simply to be able to run my room at reasonable temps, otherwise the combination of aircon and 600w lamps ends up costing a pretty bundle...

It all really depends on your position and needs, but if you can go for HID do it.

Yep already got me a 600 watt hps, but just want to add another 600 or possibly CMH (I think that is what it is?) anyways ill just get another HPS I suppose!

Run the hps 600 and a 600 mh the best bandwidth and spectrum. Pending how many plants u grow will get some awesome product if u want donkey dicks of mass destruction get a couple 1000.

the new generation LEDs are a great alternative. and until this point, yes LEDs have been a waste of money. but now getting 7-10 bands of spectrum, including the same wavelength that HPS's use to generate the hefty yields. it all comes down to the science of wavelength, and the powering. if you get cheaply made LEDs of a previous generation, youll get crap from it.

the new LEDs are more expensive initially (not by much) if you know where to look. we just bought 6 apollo 20's for less than $700 each. and 1 apollo 20 easily replaces 3-4K of HPS. so not only do you not have to have a separate ventilation for that heat from HID lights that you dont have to buy, you also dont need much in the way of a/c. from 2 13,000 btu a/c units down to 1 6000btu a/c. on top of that i save 65% on electricity because im getting more from less watts, and i dont need all the extra fans and exhaust systems using electricity.

edit:but you can buy smaller units like apollo 8's that replace a 600 watt hps entirely by itself for roughly $400. again just have to know where to look so that you dont find $650-1300 price tags on the same units im talking about

LED sounds interesting, I just think for this time I will try MH/HPS tho, I definitely want to try LED, when you say comparable to 4k what exactly do you mean? That light can cover same area as 4x1k? or how exactly do they compare them to 1000 watt HPS's

If this makes no sense, my bad-bubba kush in the ssv is kicking my ass lol
