I have a few different strains with about the same time to flower. They are on day 60 and very dense with quite a few cloudy trichomes and some amber. There are also both white and amber curled in pistols. I'm not getting very much yellowing of leaves. Will you typically see a lot or can they be ready without it?

Hey nice looking plants! I’d wait at least 2 weeks personally. You still have a lot of white hairs, wait till at least 70% of the hairs have turned orange and curled in. I avoid checking tricks until this point as I find they can be misleading. You gain a fair amount of weight in the last couple of weeks, so definitely worth the wait!

Thanks! I've read so many opinions on "use trichomes" vs "use pistols" thats why I was so confused that my Trichomes look fairly ready and I have not a single yellow leaf yet. Appreciate the answer

I would say 2-4 weeks, they're looking great!

I usually won't bother checking trichs at all anymore but when I do it has to be after the pistils have receded. trichs make sure you are checking on the buds not the leafs

leafs yellowing would be a sign of the plant starving/cannibalizing itself, feed them until harvest for the best quality flower, you can lower how much as you get closer to harvest as they will slow feeding usually

I was checking on the buds but I do appreciate the information. I used Subcool's Super Soil recipe so I haven't really ever been feeding. I got some bloom boost but have been using it in a very light mix with Cal-Mag, Molasses and Mammoth Microbials. I'm just used to them getting at least a little yellow when they get this far, I have slight yellowing on one plant which was a free seed I got and has never really looked as good as the rest. Otherwise not a single one and it's past some of the estimated times of flower for a few strains so I got overly worried I was going to over ripen them. Probably just thinking too much haha. I appreciate the help and am starting to get the sense that not too many people agree with checking trichomes as much as pistils

your cal mag and molasses may add some nitrogen, do you need calcium at this point?

as for breeder estimates most agree to take them with a grain of salt, they are usually exaggerated to sell seeds. The breeder does not know your environment or grow style to be able to accurately predict when the plant will finish. Not everyone agrees but a little trick I have found that will get you closer to the breeders estimate is, if 60 days have passed since you started 12/12 lighting you are really around day 40-46 flower. The first two-three weeks would be preflower/budding/stretch growth stage which occurs when you first initiate 12/12. It's not quite flower and not quite veg.. Once stretch slows/stops and buds are formed, you enter the true flower period"

as for trichs, some growers use them but really you want the full picture, pistils, trichs, flowers. Until your pistils all change color and recede it's usually pointless to check trichs.. Once you notice your pistils have changed and receded, while flowers are plumping up is when I would check the trichs if I was going to. At that point you know you have a ripe plant and it's a matter of choosing when you want to harvest

I've always been told to use cal mag all the way through with super soil as it helps the plant absorb everything else when using RO water. I didn't count the two weeks of preflower into my time so I guess it's closer to 74 total days. Thanks for the help!
