I think theyre called stipules(what u took a pic of), they show on both mature male and female plants, once they've reached about the 4th or 5th node. look for your sex to show between the stipule, and the new growth. u see them first closer to the tops

red doesn't indnicate n def. but p def. but not always. the plant in your pic shows STIPULES and is normal

Well...its very well defined pics. When it does show its sex, that camera should capture the moment quite nicely
