I've been doin some clipping on my girls and was wondering, if i like sprinkle the leaves on the soil, would it be like a natural N boost? Or would it be bad somehow?

Drifter stop trying to find the fastest way down the mountain and work on your grammar a bit. Rich I'm assuming you know what you're doing when you trim your plants; so I'm not going to address it. As for using your leaves for compost, I don't imagine it would hurt much. In nature when the plant sheds its leaves there isn't a maid that runs around cleaning them up. However I do agree with drifter that if you're too over zealous then you might set yourself up for a fungal problem.

If i were you i would compost the leaves separately, its bacteria that break down the leaves and release the Nitrogen. If you store all of your clippings in a barrel and mix it with dehydrated cow manure and water, it will make some pretty yummy plant food.

I may have to try that sicarli. Lol, I must say I had absolutely NO idea that there were different kinds of cow manure, heh heh. How long does it take to break it down?

Dont trim your leaves, tuck them out of the way if you must but the fan leaves store easily metabolized nutrients that your plant needs. It will rob you of growth potential as your exposing it to more light but removing the nutrient it would use to take advantage of that light

That's true. This plant is sooo bushy anyway, and the trimming has definately made the tops underneath them grow nicely. I honestly didn't want to cut ANY, it was just too thick. It was definately the right thing to do, it may sound scarey to some, buts its payin off already:weed:

couple issues I want to address

1) taking leaves off can reduce nutrition to the plant as the fan leaves are nutrition stores but we have fertilizer to counteract that. The fact that they also serve as solar panels for growth is an issue as well but, the compromise is well served in allowing other parts of the plants to gain.

2) the actual time to break down the leaves should be a bit longer than what it takes to grow your plant and harvest. Its much better to vermicompost them to make your own worm castings.

3) I hate to break it to some of you, but unless you have a giant pile of leaves there is no reason to suspect fungus or anything of that nature. The leaves will dry up way to fast to produce anything like that. Of course if you have 9 pounds of fan leaves in a five gallon bucket around your plant, all bets are off.

1.Well put hybrid. 2.Didn't know they'd take that long to break down though. 3.Excuse me, i've got a big bucket of leaves I just poured over my plants to go try to remove

How do you know, did you leave one untrimmed so you could tell the difference?

We arent telling you not to do it because its "scary" its becuase its a bad idea

Its good to know that contrary to everything I have learned, its paying off from you, but again, how do you know?

Edit: This might come down to your CFLs and their lack of light penetration, get a HID and shoot that undergrowth full of light.

1. Two days after trimming- All of the tops that were previously blanketed with darkness from the bigger leaves on top are now growing out of control.
2.I don't know where the bigger buds on ur plants tend to be, but on mine, they don't grow on big ass leaves, they're always from the tops, which in this case was UNDER said big ass leaf(s)
3. I actually have another plant in there with it I was gonna compare it to, but I gave it to a buddy, we're havin a friendly little competition (kinda pointless in the same closet ya?) Anyway, I trimmed mine and it went out of control, so he thought he should trim his up too.... well he didn't really trim so much as just do some wierd shit to it...

hey speed, forgot to mention, there's 400 watts of high preassure love in that closet as well as 4 cfl supplements. The cfl's were the reason it got so bushy in the first place. Started with 8 daylight cfl's to tide me over til the hps arrived. Sure would like to get into the composting thing so i'll be studyin up on that. I'm not one of those 'oh, u HAVE to be 100% organic or its crap' kind of guys. I just want what most people here want, NICE FAT NUGS, and LOTS of em! :peace:
