Area 51 OR Advanced DS XML 350

I am currently looking for an led to mainly flower with.

Area 51 has a new light you can preorder now that is 175 watts.

I am considering either preordering (2) of the new area 51 lights, OR getting
(1) of the advanced DS XML 350.

I have noticed the advanced light is getting some really, really good reviews
and that is swaying me towards that light at the moment.

I am looking for something with really good canopy penetration, any advice
to the better light?

Well I think it depends on what options you are looking for. You will likely get better coverage with 2 area51s. Also depends on if you want more white light or not. They are both very good lights. I currently have an area 51 sgs-160 and I have also used the xml150. The XML will have some control knobs that allow you to play with the spectrum and intensity. I also just got an email from advanced this week that the XML chips are now being upgraded to xml2.

I would go with two of the Area 51 LED's myself, (as mentioned above) you will get better coverage, and a much larger footprint.
I own one of their older models, that uses 3W LED's, and it works great.
They really know their stuff over at Area 51 and have excellent customer service.

Lack of penetration is over exaggerated. Much of the problem stems from lenses that are <80*s. The tighter the lens angle, the farther away the panel needs to be, the lower the penetration

Area 51 is 100% dedicated to making the best lights while keeping prices reasonable

2 a51's. They use better components plus have a lifetime warranty. Dawg is blowing shit up with 2 sgs160's in a 4x4 tent. There are a lot of other great grows with the sgs160 on here, real results speak loudly.

Biggest dilemma for led's(imo) is coverage vs power/penetration. The price want to make you stretch the capabilities. At least for me. [/FONT]

I remember when people were talking a bunch of crap about LED's but since then it appears that they have come a long way. Two LED's probably will give you a better spread, although I was always told it was better to have a 1000 watt light rather than a 4 and a 6. Not sure if they same concept would apply to LED's or not, tricky question you have here.

Why are you trying to answer a question aimed at LED users, when you make it clear in your reply, that you're not an LED user?
Are you just having some fun running up your post count?
It's not a tricky question, any moderately experienced LED grower can tell you, multiple lights are preferential to one big light.

SGS-160 has a two year warranty where everything is covered 100%. After that you pay cost, not retail. However it is a lifetime upgrade warranty where you will be able to upgrade the drivers and lights for $250.

I am certain they are both great light but I would opt for the lifetime warranty and go with A51. I have been running my AF600s for over a year now and I am so pleased with the results that I have stopped shopping LEDs. I am set for years.

Lifetime just not unlimited. The fans are the reason for 2 yrs on the whole thing(most likely), their manufacture warranty is only 2yrs(cheaper fans die quicker). But they are also the cheapest thing to replace too and probably the only thing if at all, unless upgrading. The diodes are 50,000hours(ten years of 12/12). They have a really quick turnaround and no shipping to china. Still the best warranty I know of. And upgradeable is really clutch since there could be a new one in less than a year.

It is the Hans Led light, for the cost of the others I could have (4) of these.

So now my decision is down to the following:

(2) of the new Area 51 Lights
(4) of the Hans Led Lights.

I sent an email to each with a couple questions.

I received a reply from area 51 right away, Still waiting for a reply
from Hans I sent the email 3 or 4 days ago.

Both are good. For coverage its the same watts. Same price. A51 has a better warranty but hans has remote drivers. Both use cree led's. The hans has some osram 660 led's which kickass too. You could go with 1 a51 and 2 hans or all of either... decision decisions.....

I use Diamond Series and like the lights very much. I have 2, 100w series in a 2x4 hut and doing nicely. That said - the older lamp did have a soldering issue on the board causing one 'bank' of lights not to light. I found the issue by just flexing the PCB a bit and LED's would come on. I just hit the joint with a hot iron and no problems since. PM me if you want pics of the inner 'workings' of the DSM's.

I have about 1k max to spend, and I would like to go with all the same brand.

What are the remote drivers in the hans lights and what is the advantage OR
disadvantage of remote drivers?

Remote means not built inside the panel. Easier to replace in the event of failure

My preference between these choices is A51. IMHO, Hans is living in the past, using too many mono-diodes. That approach is no longer needed, but the longer the customer takes to realize that the more money the Han's of the world get to make. Oh his panels work fine, but unnecessarily complicated. Today's' NW and WW provide 95%+ of the light spectrums mj needs to produce awesome quality harvests
