Ok, this is a belated grow journal, I have been meaning to post this but I only just recently got my camera fixed. So here is a quick update and rundown of what I am working with.
The Space
I am growing in a small closet. pretty much the average sized, single door closets that you will find in most houses.
The Seed
I chose Arjan's Ultra Haze #1 for a couple reasons. First off, it's an award winner. second, it's a haze, I really love the mellow qualities of good hazes. I would have to say that I am more of a fan of Sativas than Indicas. I play a lot of music and I find that a good sativa is like jam session fuel, the creative high is amazing. and lastly, this baby is a high yeilder.
The downsides of this strain are that it's a pretty big plant for limited space and the budding period takes around 12 weeks for the bud to be ready. The height problem was fixed by shortening the vegging time to 3 weeks. The longer wait only makes the bud that much sweeter!
I got my seeds from this seedbank, I would reccommend them highly:

The Set-up
I basically built this setup. Its a pretty easy DIY rig. Here is a list of my parts. I don't have receipts on all this stuff, but it wasn't expensive, I am going to try to give everything an approximate dollar amount to give you an idea.
Reservoir:
Rubbermaid storage tub w/ lid - 18 gal - $15
3 net pots - $2
3"x3" rockwool cubes - $7
lava pebbles - $5
Air pump - $4
air stone - $7
Lighting:
Mylar sheeting - $17
150w Sun System HPS light - $120 (ebay)
small room fan - $15
Nutrients:
Fox Farm Grow Big - $13 per bottle
Fox Farm Tiger Bloom - $13 per bottle
Fox Farm Big Bloom - $13 per bottle
Clearex clearing solution - $15 per bottle
PH kit - $15
Grand Total (approx.) $261
of course you could save a lot using florescent lights but nothing touches the bud production of a HPS bulb. I do use florescent bulbs for the vegging phase. I find that they work well in that stage of plant growth. And they are cheap! I paid a little more for the HPS light and I think its worth it. All in all, this is a pretty cheap setup.
one other thing I use that I forgot to mention is something called a Python. its for filling/draining fish tanks, its a long hose that you can hook up to a sink and it uses the water pressure to drain the resivour, and then when its drained you flip a switch and it fills you back up. a serious life saver. I dont know how much these cost because a friend gave me her fish tank and it came with one of these. I am sure you can pick one up from a pet store that sells fish.
The Grow
this is a pretty simple grow. I basically lined the walls and inside door of the closet with mylar, screwed hooks in the roof and hung the light by a thin change that I can easily raise and lower. I have a fan circulating the closet, thats pretty much it. the lower wattage of the light keeps temperatures down.
This setup requires almost no maintenance. Once every other week drain the water, and run clearex to purge salt buildup, drain that and then fill with fresh nutrient water. On the off weeks I top off the reservoir and add more nutrients. I keep the PH at 5.5
the plants are going strong on the 8th week of flowering. 4 more to go, hopefully by the beginning of march I will be able to post some harvest pictures. Here is where we are, picks of the rig and some BUD PRON!!!
