I just got some gravity also and am anxious to use it. From what I've been told, use 1/2 to 1/4 of the recommended dosage. Lets see what info the docs got for us :hump:
I've got 14 week sativas and I'm less then 2 weeks in :( so I got a while

hey boneman! ive heard its good stuff...Beech swears by it...my big prob is that they say to raise the light...ive run outta overhead room..the closest plant is 13 inches from it and the furthest is 24 inches...today is the day if im gonna use it but the light may be too close?

Yeah, so the bottle says to raise it 6-12 inches but is that 6-12 more? Maybe just try it on the ones 24" away. That surely has to be far enough away...ya think? What does BEECH say?
 
thats what im sayin....at what distance do u raise the light...i can get my 600's 6 inches away from the tops without burn, but that wont be till the last few days...but is it raise the light 12 inches higher than they are at the present time of feeding? or what...that shts confusing! do they maybe get a massive burst of vert growth? along with swell?......just zoned for about 10 min...lmao...that was a good bong hit:eyesmoke:..lol...i dont know hopefully doc or beech answers soon
 
I don't know the answer...

I've wanted to try out the gravity... At 1/4 strength.

And raising the lights helps them bulk up, if you have the lights too low they'll continue vertical growth, creating new calyxes... That's why you want to raise the lights towards the end.

You could bend the colas over, if possible, to get them farther away from the light.
 
while we are on the nutes...i got a question, im a firm believer in foliar feeding...i u were to add nutes to your humidifier would you not be foliar feeding along the same line that hydro delivers nutes? i know its a leaf and root feed difference..
 
Yeah, essentially it would work, but you'd need a fogger type humidifier... And it's possible that the nutes won't be dispersed... Reason being;

A humidifier heats up the water to make vapor, basically the same as a distiller, if that's the case, a humidifier wont work for foliar application...

Are you using and surfactants like castile soap in you foliar mix? AN has a product called "Wet Betty" that aides in foliar feeding...


I used to foliar feed often, but my current grow room doesn't allow it due to humidity levels...

But yeah, evaporated water won't carry nutes... Best to stick with a pump sprayer...

It would be cool to have automated foliar feeding though...

i foliar feed with my run-off water...sometimes i add a drop of superthrive...i think an auto foliar feed might b dangerous...lol..kinda scares me knowing water would be spraying in the air arround lights radio and fans....
 
Hey Doc, great thread first of all. You make things easy to understand and I find myself learning often from your teachings.

Here's the deal...

I am growing in soil and have been using the foxfarm line for nutrients, however their bottles have different instructions than their chart. The solubles label advises to use every feeding whereas on the chart they provide with the kit it's advised that you nute every other watering. Instructions on all of their liquid nutrients are for every other watering so using the label on the back of the soluble I would be giving Open Sesame, Beastie Boomz, and Cha Ching(during different cycles of course) in addition to water on my "straight water" in between feedings watering? Does this sound right?

Also, the chart advises to use the Grow juice into and throughout flowering, but I haven't even administered once as my soil was Ocean Forest and rich enough to veg 100% from my findings at least. Should I start giving them a bit of the Grow as advised by their chart?

I don't use Tiger Bloom, I use their regular Bloom and am ripping through the bottle. Is it worth it to invest in the Tiger bloom as well or is that overkill? I am at the very least going to have to pick up some regular FF Bloom, but have access to Tiger Bloom as well.

Also, what are your thoughts on reusing soil? If I amend with a couple bags of fresh Ocean Forest, some castings, some guano, etc. would I be alright?

A lot of questions...


I think I can help out the doc i'm familiar with fox farm.


First, you want to follow the chart, not the bottle...


And you want to add the soluables along with the Big Bloom... (Which you do use a lot of)... When you feed.


I do recommend getting the Tiger Bloom, and using it at the suggested rate. Grow Big helps out from the lack of nitrogen in the 3rd, 4th week.


And yes, I reuse my soil for 3 grows... After you harvest rinse the soil well after using a cleaning agent (AN Final Phase, Botanicare Clearex...) I also add some enzymes to let them finish what's left (Hygrozyme, Sensizyme)
 
You da man, thanks a bunch. Do you think the tiger bloom well help out that much though? I guess my question is what does tiger bloom do that the big bloom and solubles aren't already doing? I will follow the chart provided and not the bottle. I guess further, what are the solubles providing that the bloom isn't? Just curious, no biggie if you can't go into detail.

Also, on the soil, do you add reconditioning nutes(guano, castings, another bag or two of FFOF?) in between uses? I was just looking and the soil from the ones I pulled and it looks almost new aside from the few stray roots I couldn't get out. Wouldn't leaving a bit of root in the used soil be beneficial for plants down the road anyway given roots are organic and such? They say that reusing soils can result in nute lock up, etc, down the road but think that only applies to those soils that are overly fertilized and thus spent. Given I have only dosed them once/twice with the bloom I think I should be in good shape and will give it a good rinse down.

Just trying to learn a bit more on the technical side of things and having fun doing it.

Tiger Bloom is a more concentrated for of fertillizer, not 100% organic. Big Bloom is organic, and a low concentrated form, it's mostly a liquid guano mix.

The soluables pack a serious punch, but yeah, I think it's worth the 20 bucks for the Tiger Bloom...




Your on the right track... As long as you use a flushing agent to break up the buildup, then rinse it out, you're all good... You can add some more guanos, but the ocean forest isn't necessary.

Sensizym and its competition is used to break down organic matter, like roots.
 
Dr. i was wondering if you could give me a step by step method for flushing my plants. I am confused. Do I flush everyday or do i flush when i would have normally watered? I am confused....I am on day 50 of flowering my white Russian and I am ready to flush soon!!!!
 
There are many ways, but it's fairly simple.

First you start off with a flushing agent (Final Phase, Clearex) water the regular amount you'd water for feeding... And wait a few hours... The product is supposed to break up excess nutes in the soil... (This step isn't required, but highly suggested)

Next,

Flush with plain water, no nutes, 2-5 times the container size... The idea is to rinse away any leftover nutes in the soil...

As doc would say... check the runoff for the tds, once it's the same as plain water, you're good to go.

So if I wanted to skip applying the flushing agent and just give it water that would be fine right? I just have to make sure I give it a shyt load of water. I am two weeks from harvest, should I flush it with only water tonight and then wait for a week then flush again? When I harvest, shouldnt the plants be dry of water? I thought I heard that you dont want to give your plant water a few days before harvest because you want the plant to soak up all the remainding water in the soil. How is this true if i am flushing? Wont there be water in the soil from my last flush?

If you have good drainage in your pots and your plants aren't greatly undersized relative to your pot size, they will easily consume that water in a week.

I have drain holes and an inch of plain sand in the bottoms of mine -- the plants suck up all the water the soil will hold in 2-3 days.
 
When the pistels dont show automatic hairs does this mean its a seed, or still undeveloped? If so can u remove a seed without making more spread on the same plant and or spread to others surrounding it? If so whats the correct way to do that? I know by sqeezing(pistel) to determine if theres a "zit" inside means seed. just wanted to add that in.lol
